I have a A3000 with graphics card and mediator. I was wondering if any of you can recomend some must have utilities for use with OS3.9. I am using P96 for my RTG display and have a CSMKIII 060 with 128MB of RAM. Posting using it in fact with the new Ibrowse.

PageStream, if you're into DTP.
DrawStudio for vector drawing.
And any of half a dozen decent image processing packages.
-
Yam, Imagine, ImageFX, Candy Factory Pro.

ToolsDaemon and the ToolsDaemon patch to work with OS3.9
ToolsDaemon21a (http://www.aminet.net/util/boot/ToolsDaemon21a.lha)
ToolsDaemon22 (http://www.aminet.net/util/boot/ToolsDaemon22.lha) - patch
-
I don't like ViNCEd (the shell/console shipped with OS3.9) so I'd recommend KingCON.
Visage is a good image-viewer.
HippoPlayer if you want to listen to modules.
A good port or clone of "ls" always comes in handy.
If you want a do-all system patcher/improver I'd have to say MCP (Master Control Program). I've been using it since 1996 and I couldn't live without it.
-
Although not a utility MUI3.8 is a must, IMHO.
-
Powersnap. A definite must have on any Amiga.
On Aminet PowerSnap22a.lha in util/cdity
-
anticlick.lha stop the darn floppy drive from clicking! (does the 2/3/4000 suffer with that?)
-
MCP supports anticlick as well. Does PowerSnap work with high-res screens (like 1024x768)? I have not been succesfull using it with small fonts in high resolution (small fonts=XHelvetica/13) but I'd sure like to use it again since it rules :-)

Directory Opus v4.x - not that piece of crap called Magellan, and Cygnus Ed!!!

@AmigaPete
I used Dopus4 for years before 5.x then Magellan came out. I had it tricked out to the max and it was great. However, when 5.x came out then Magellan I moved on. I can assure you that Dopus4 as great as it is and can be, cannot even be mentioned in the same breath as Magellan.
Magellan blows it away and is miles ahead of Dopus4's capabilities. The only people that I have met that do not like Magellan either have bog standard low spec computers, or simply cannot figure out how to configure it. If you have a decent spec'd computer and configure Magellan it''s capabilities will blow your mind. It leaves Dopus4 so far behind it's pathetic. I moved on and have never regretted that decesion. Magellan kicks ass, and you can configure it to do absolutely anything that you want it to do. There is nothing even close to it on any platform, and sadly Opus6.x for the PC doesn't even compare. The PC version is very powerful and blows Windows Explorer, Wndows Commander, System Commander, both of which are very similar to Dopus4 away.
However, it is best suited for a power user really, because of the tweaking and confuguring it requires. It is nice though, but still Magellan on the Amiga kicks it ass as well!

@RexxMast
i just bought a copy of pc plus (pc mag) and it had the full copy of dopus 6 on the CD.
SUPERB,
However, i actually run dopus 5 (sometimes), on the miggy, when i want to do some work...like you said ,well recommended.

Hi Acill,

:-? I can't believe nobody has already recomended Magic Menu. It's useful.
-
-
I use noclick to shut down the floppydrive
clicking on my A4000...
-
A decent set of hard-disk utils is a must for any version. Defragmenters and the like...
@Anybody
What's the sketch with tools like ReOrg? Is there anything like it thats bang up to date in supporting the latest incarnations of the amiga filesystem?
-
Must have utilities? Hmmm, let's see.
WB Enhancers: Magic Menu, Toolsdaemon and AmiDock
Text Editor: CygnusEd
Internet Connectivity: MiamiDx
File Manager: DOpus Magellan II (not as a WB replacement)
Image Manipulator: Art Department Pro
Sound: SPlayer and AHI.
Image Viewer: CyberWindow and MultiView.
CLI Enhancer: KingCON
Doctors: SnoopDOS and Disk Salv.
These are my 'must have' utilities and do not necessarily represent the choices of others.

Depends on the system. My 1200T runs an 8G drive, and ReORG is the only tool I can get to run on it for the drives using FFS. (SFS also comes with its own defrag tool. Not sure about PFS.)

you definently need a good C compiler!
H&P have StormC V4 out now, quite cheap!
but i would highly reccomend The Amiga Developer CD 2.1!!!!
for me, thats a must!!
& it comes with Storm C & PPaint!!!!!
:-D
-
if you want an email program, consider eucalyptus! my favorite, probably most people dont like it, but try it anyway!
and my favorite CD player program: grooveyplayer!(i think)
-
I quite like qdir on aminet.. a dir replacement. and yeah, the Amiga Developer cd is good, comes with StormC 3.0.. which is quite easy to use.
-
This is my list for most usefully and needed
Dir Opus (4.x is free)
Tools Deamon already mentioned but better than what comes with 3.9
Magic Menu newest version fully compatable.
NO MCP I have many problems with this one on 3.9 BB2.
Even though I use Picasso on my Amithlon system I find Cybergraphics 4.0 far superior.
