Subject says it all.
Seems I can't access it here (from work) at all. I'm used to DNS c*ckups at home knocking me out, but from work is a new one. Seemed OK this morning, now I get a connection refused message.
Is it just happening here or what?
-
Same thing here (at work). :-(
-
Hi,
It is indeed down. HD failure.
Coder
-
Bugger :-(
-
A DOS attack launched by Peg users maybe
It's a JOKE!
-
Someone tried to run Karlos' benchmark test proggy. :-)
-
Hum,
Hd failure ....you mean they have only one HD?
They make backups every week, you think?
Perhaps it`s just `normal`, and they just installed SP2?
-

I was gonna crack an obvious joke about trying to use "AmigaOnes" as servers here, but I'll let someone else offend an entire religion today... ;)
-
Im sure they will be back soon hard drives are crap these days for reliabilty.
-
@blobrana
It's done (backup) a tad more often then that, several time a day iirc.
Perhaps it`s just `normal`, and they just installed SP2?
And I think it's running on Red Hat Linux, so that'd kind of be dumb thing to do yes. ;-)

Only desktop ones, and servers which handle the kind of traffic AW gets would blow up a cheap-as-chips desktop IDE drive soon anyway. Those are the low end rubbish. Servers use high-end SCSI beasts, or should.

Update
The server harddrive developed lots of damaged blocks, this caused the server to crash and has corruped lots of data, luckily most of these corruped data files are system files and not website or database files.
The OS has been booted up in Recovery mode and we are currently tar'ing hda3 (18GB) to a remote location using an ssh tunnel (thanks Sibbi). This will take serveral hours.
Once that is done support will replace and partition a new harddrive with the OS installed. Then we can restore hda3 to the new harddrive, and if all goes well we will be back online tomorrow.

Unlike the world-class Pegasos, which is in widespread use all over the internet. I hear the BBC is now running their entire farm on Peg I's w/ April fix, running OpenBSD...
:-D
-
If you're trying to start a red/blue flame war, don't. Seehund isn't a Pegasos owner and never will be, so stick a sock in it.
Have you hugged your legion today?

You running that site on one hard drive?!?!? :-) Heh, just kiddin' with ya. Good luck, I hope everything goes according to plan for getting it back online!
-
The DB is backed up everynight to a remote location, and 4 are stored in rotation. A backup of the site files are store on my PC, not much of the site files really change, apart from user avatars.
Lots of stuff that isnt backup, like system configuration files, cron scipts and so on. So it was easier to just copy the whole hda3 partition to an other server via an ssh tunnel.
-
@DaveyD
Good luck :-)

Disclaimer ? What disclaimer ? ;-)
As if anybody ever reads manuals, EULA's and disclaimers..
-
@Karlos:
BTW, I've been meaning to try it out and send in the results, however the duties at home have been preventing me from my Amiga time during the last few weeks. :-(
-
@x56h34
Don't worry, I know what it's like :-)
-
isn't that where billsley lives???
"Where's your ghod now?"
:roflmao:
-
@All
We've successfully backed up the hda3 files to a remote location and are now awaiting for support to replace the harddrive. Site should be online sometime tomorrow afternoon (UK time).
Apologies for the inconvenience!
And thanks Wayne Hunt and Amiga.org for letting our members use your forums during this difficult period.
-
Well, we did tell you not to try those 'drive music' programs out on your server :-)
-
any news how long b4 we get amigaworld back on line ?
-
I guess it takes time to restore all the posts from Bodie_CI5 :lol:
Sometime this afternoon was the last I've heard.
Oh well, got the time to register here while aw.net is down :-P
-
:) I sent an email to os4depot.net and the site dropped of the web mmmm glad it wasn't me err I hope

@DaveyD
Yup, a BIG thank you to Wayne and co.! :-)

Progress report:
- New harddrive installed
- Faulty harddrive is being mounted as a 2nd drive for data retrieval to the new drive
- OS and Services are currently being installed
I will keep you posted as things develop
A few avatars is all that appears to have been lost from aw.net, and a few recent os4depot.net uploads
-
A DOS attack launched by Peg users maybe
The bloody {bleep}s manufactured the fawlty HDD themselves! Conspiracy! I sense a seriously thickening plot here :-)
-
Indeed...

They're Back! (after 34 hours)
@The_Editor
will this help for the time being (untill you get sorted)
(http://www.amiga.org/uploads/cavt4138f93c5a561.gif)
-
LOL Kronos, but you overlook one fact... and that is we both have nearly the same number of posts! :lol:
-
34 hours!? If the system was backed up to tape it should have been able to recover in a fraction of that time with less manual work. Perhaps someone needs to do some disaster recovery planning.
-
@adolescent
It would have been done in 4 hours if support had been quicker to replace the harddrive
-
Glad to see you're back online. I know how traumatic it is for something like this to happen. Sorry for the beating you took over on ANN but I did try to help inject some type of maturity into the conversation. Didn't help, but then again, sometimes the lack of maturity (and intelligence) shown by several in this community really, really disappoints me.
Maybe I'm just getting old, or at least I'm from one of the last generations that was taught to respect other people and not kick them while they're down.
Welcome back.
Wayne

Erm, has it just gone down again ... or is that just me?
I went there at about 4pm, and all was well apart from not remembering what posts I'd viewed (not unusual).
-
never mind ... it's there again ... wierd (I tried it several times). Maybe just a glitch in the matrix ...
