Title: A3000 harddrive problems
Post by: Orjan on August 31, 2004, 05:51:37 PM

I got an A3000 ( kick 37.175 ) with a Seagate ST34573N SCSI drive. When I try to "prep" the drive using the Prephd utility in Workbench 2.05 it says that it is unable to locate a drive with ID 6. The thing is, the drive is set to be 6, according to the manufacturers specs.

What do you think could be the problem?

Download setbatt from Aminet and see if you can fiddle around with your NVRam SCSI settings and make the drive work. Make sure there is a working battery in your A3000, so that he NVRam settings would be kept after powering down. Also, I'd set the drive to be ID0.

have you cheched the A3000's SCSI settings? (the ones that are stored by the battery)

Also how hany other SCSI devices have you got installed? Might be worth trying other ID numbers, or without other devices on the chain.

Sorry, I don't have any knowledge of the WB2 HD prep tool, guess I've been spoilt :-D

Exactly how have you set the drive, ie. what jumpers have you set? eg. Parity on/off, termination on/off etc. etc. etc.
