Howdy I'm trying to install Pinball Fantasies AGA and it installs but when I try to run it I get an error...
DOS-Error #205
(object not found
on reading "devs@kickstarts/lick40068.a4000".
What does it mean?

You have to install a Kickstart image in devs:Kickstarts for this game to work. See skick343.lha on Aminet.
-
I can only find skick345.lha will this do the same job?
Robert
It says it's for OS2.0 but I have OS3.0...
-
That must be a newer version, should be fine. But remember you will also need a Actual A4000 ROM image file.
-
I'm running it on an A1200 so I don't have an A4000 image file... I've told it to use the A1200 one but doesn't look like it's gonna work :-(
-
Actually just rename the A1200 rom to the one it is looking for, should work fine.
-
Well it looks like SKick has a load of files so I copied them to Devs/Kickstarts (I made a new drawer, there wasn't one there already) but it doesn't work, are you saying I need to grab my kickstart and stick it in there?

If you go to the HD section of Back2Roots they have Pinball Fantasies as an installed harddisk version, it's from the CD32 copy and doesn't need WHDLoad.
If you have Skick345.lha, check the documentation for WHDLoad to see what needs to go where (and the exact names to use) - even on an A1200 some games will require the Rom image on the harddisk anyway! There's a rom extraction tool in with WinUAE, but I can't remember it's name off the top of my head ...
-
I actually have the files it's asked for but it won't use them :-?
Robert
-
And have you put the Rom images in the devs:Kickstarts drawer, and given them the names described in the WHDLoad docs?
Mine works and looks like this:

-
yeah it says seek error or cannot find file.
In skick are they just kickstarts or are they roms too?
I only have access to my 3.0 A1200 roms.

SKick does not contain kickstart or rom files. It just has some data files, you will copy the files to the rom it is looking for AND the 512k ROM file and rename it to the same name.
-
I think it expects a 3.1 Rom image BTW ...
-
Okay so what files do I need in my kickstarts drawer?
Do I *have* to have 3.1 Roms?
Robert
-
You do need an exact replica of genuine kickstart file. The most installs require kick40068.A1200 plus those skick files. Some installs even are adapted to A4000, but just some. If your install demands A4000, you probably have a wrong version, as all installs (I think) are made to work with 3.1 A1200 kick file (if requiring a kick file), just a couple with A4000, too. Of course there are also installs requiring A500 kick 1.3.
-
I don't think you need KS3.1 chips installed, just an image of them, as named by Zipper.
-
Most installers use the A1200 3.1 ROM, but I have seen some that use the A4000. I think the author did that and should probably of used the A1200 ROM image instead. I simply added the 4000 files from skick and a copy of my own 3.1 ROM on my 4000 in the drawer and it worked!
-
Okay well I only have the 3.0 Rom, is there any way I can make these installers that want 3.1 work that doesn't involve buying new roms?
Robert :-?
-
The only way to get the Rom image /legally/ without getting the Roms itsself would be to buy Amiga Forever. If you've got enough for the OS3.9 specs now it might be worth upgrading anyway ;-)
-
Well I do have a copy of the 3.1 rom :-o but it doesn't work so it looks like I'll buy them anyway! I'd like to upgrade but I need a cd-rom first, which will have to wait as I'm still recovering from the non working squirrel bits I bought from ebay :pissed:
Robert
P.S Anyone with a spare BlizzardSCSI IV kit they'd sell? :-P
