Title: Picasso II Memory
Post by: EdKing on August 30, 2004, 01:47:50 PM
Does anyone know what type of memory the Picasso II graphics board uses ?
I want to upgrade my board to 2 Meg.

1 or 2 MB 45 or 60 ns DRAM
1 MB (eight DIPs) soldered to board
eight DIP sockets for additional 1 MB
accepts 256k×4 DIPs, 45-80 ns

Hope this helps.

I sell them.  How many do you need?   :-D

Oh, BTW... your Workbench 2.1 disks were shipped last week.  Enjoy.   :-D

Are you sure about the speed of the DRAM?  The fastest I have ever seen these 44256 DRAMs is 60ns and these are very rare.  80ns and 100ns are the more common speeds for these DRAMs.    :roll:

Alot of the old PC video cards for ISA slots, use drams as memory expansions on the cards..  find some old discarded video cards s3, siruslogic, tsenglabs etc

If the ram on these is socketed (which alot were) rip'em out and check the ram access speed.

If similar to whats on your picasso.. enjoy :-)

That is where I find a lot of the ones I have.  I find these DRAMs at my local Goodwill Outlet for about .35 cents per video card.  There is usually 8 of the 44256 DRAMs on each video board.  I sell the 44256 DRAMs on eBay for an average price of $10 to $20 per 8 chips.  So, as you can see I make very good profit on these "rare" memory chips.   :-D

The 44256 DRAMs are also used in the A2091 SCSI Controller board, the Amiga 2000 and 500 motherboards, the Atari Mega ST motherboards, and various other hardware and boards.    :-)

@BoingBoss

After the last fiassco of ordering something from you, thanks, but no thanks.
I got the disks, I thought I was purchasing originals, not copies.

I would never sell the "Originals" of Workbench 2.1 for only $12.00 plus s/h.  Workbench 2.1 is the rarest of the Amiga Workbenches and is now going up in value with "retro" collectors.  Consider yourself lucky to get a professionally produced copy of the originals on high quality Sony disks for only $12.00.  I paid almost $50.00 for Workbench 2.1 with the boxed manuals, in new condition.  I can buy a brand new Workbench 3.9 for only $35.00.  So why does a used copy of Workbench 2.1 sell for an average amount of $40 to $50 on eBay?   :roll:

@DoomMaster

So you're selling pirated copies of AmigaOS aswell?

You damn pirate scum!

@BoingBoss

If you look at my original request, I asked for a set of WB2.1 disks, not copies.
I could download pirated copies from the internet. Like I said earlier, I wish I
had known what a clown you were, I would never have sent you the money.

Once again, thanks for the tip, I found a few graphics boards in my computer
junk and got enough chips to make my Picasso II a 2 meg card.

That's right, you asked for a set of WB 2.1 disks and that is exactly what you got.  You did not say anything about them having to be "original disks".  If you had, I would have told you sorry I can't help you.

I am not a "clown".  You just need to be more specific in what you ask for.

Like I tried telling you guys before, I had Amiga OS 4 (Full Version) before it was even released, but you guys did not believe me.

It is one thing to copy software illegally, it is another to sell illegal copies to someone. I am not commenting anymore as I don't wan't to enter a flame war with a CLOWN like you.

Well well well, lookee here.  Doomy "helps" another user with his "expertise".

Keep it up, slappy, and I'm sure someone will report you to the SPA.  (Laugh all you want, chuckles, any version of WB is still the property of KMOS/AInc., whether you like it or not.)

I don't remember the cards (I am at work right now, will post the cards tonight) but the chip numbers were 4c4256-7 on one, and 4c4256-70 on the other. After I installed them I used a program from Aminet (don't remember name, will post tonight) to add the picasso mem as fast mem, then used GVP's memtest to test the ram. The test passed, and the Picasso is working fine now.

@ Ed

If you look at vesalia.de (http://www.vesalia.de) and do a search for "amiga os 2.1", you can get OS 2.1 and Manual for $8.50 + shipping, or you can get a bundle inc 2.05 rom for a couple of dollars more

@orange

The one board is a Diamond Computer Systems SpeedStar VGA board, the other is a Cirrus Logic VGA
board, made for Compudyne, Part no 1X0-0203-607.

The software from Aminet for using the Picasso memory as fastram is apm3311.lha.

@Edking

If you are still interested in OS2.1 disks, www.vesalia.de has them in a set consisting of the 5 disks ( original, to my knowledge :-)  ), kickstart 2.05 and english manual for only 8.90€. ( Around the same in US$ )

So much for "Workbench 2.1 is the rarest of the Amiga Workbenches and is now going up in value with "retro" collectors."

But I guess it´s good that Doomy got screwed when he bought his: "I paid almost $50.00 for Workbench 2.1 with the boxed manuals, in new condition."
