After I swore off classic hardware forever, giving away almost everything, I see a nice clean A4000 with Toaster for sale locally pretty cheap. What to do, what to do? WinUAE is VERY functional and much faster than any Amiga I have ever own.. But a classic box..... :-x :-x Damn I wish I never saw it... I can't afford...
Ever had a dilema?

Riveted, Redrumloa raved:

;-) Go ahead and jump off of the wagon, and rejoin the Classic Amiga users throng! You can always sell it again on e-bay...
-
if you ever find an A4000 for a reasonable price ALWAYS buy it ;-)
:-D
-
I'd buy it and then live on Heinz white beans for the rest of the month :-)
-
a cheap working toaster is a good working toaster.
I still amaze people when I show them the toaster running on my 4000. (They don't understand how a machine running at 50mhz with 64 megs of ram can do what it does) :)
-
buy it...
you know you want it...
don't resist....
the anxiety will go away, if you buy it....
price is no object....
it's calling you....
buy it...
you'll only wish you had if you don't....
it's a toaster.... need I say more.....
:-P :-P

@Red
Go ahead, gofor it. Life's too short to not take advantage of the opportunities we are given. A Classic Box is like a lot of other fine things(cigars, good wine etc.) that we could all do without, but we wouldn't have much fun either, would we? I'm surfin' right now on my A2000, and having FUN, not just using some damn appliance like my electric shaver! Enjoy!!!

How true! :-)

Ever had a dilema?
All the time!
Result? I'm now in the process of building my second PPC based classic machine. :-P
-
Buy it!
I don't know how much is the asking price, but I've seen just Toasters go for $400 on eBay, alone.

Out of curiosity, for how much can you pickup a A4000 in the US?
WAY OT:
Is anyone intending to sell an A4000 or A3000 in Australia? :-)
-
3 steps to Miggy Heaven.
1.Take a good look at your bank account.
2.Deduct amount needed for perchase (inc.overdraft options) using maths.
3.Perchase! Beg-Steal-Borrow and purchase DAMIT! :-P

Here (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3004451190&category=21166) is a 4000/Toaster system FS on eBay. 16 Hrs left and $338 (no reserve) is the highest bid. If I had the cash, I think I'd snag it. :)
-
if its an a4000 tower then go for it is the video toaster something you might use i might be getting a cheap cdtv to go with my other one .
-
Buuuuy! Buuuuy! Go on, buy it. You KNOW you want to! :-D
-
You want it, you know you want it. That's not a dilemma, that's just not having enough ca$h!
Story of my life ;-)
PS. Great avatar!

toaster was a good piece of professional video editing equipment in the early 90's... I'm sure it will have some collectors value if you dont abuse it.
I'd buy it on that principal if your looking for a reason.

SHHH!! You let the secret out :-o That is the one local to me! I emailed the guy and found out he's about 2 miles from my house, so i wouldnt have to pay shipping. It was at $300 when I posted this, I hope it doesnt go much high. If I can get it for under $400 I'm probably going to go for it. If it goes over $400 I'll have to pass because I'm far to broke right now to begin with:-(

Hope you are the winner Reddrumloa, I was just on ebay and i see you are high bidder. Did you see the A4K whose bid is at 247.50? That one looks brand new doesn't it.

I have been outbid, it is over $400 now. Nope, I'm out of the bidding now :getmad: I saw the other one, it looks pretty nice and is loaded.
Oh well, it's probably for the best that I don't.... I need to keep away from ebay... evil urges come over me... :-x

Just think of that. Some ancient hardware with no technical support or even a company to run to when you have a problem and it sells for more than you can get a brand new spanking Intel Celeron box with all the bells and whistles.
This can only mean one thing; either we are all nuts or that old box (A4000) can do a lot more than the Celeron box can. Too bad you didn't get it. Obviously, there are a few people in the know. Hey, it doesn't take a majority to start a revolution. :destroy:

I'm sorry you didn't win, I just checked ebay and saw that you weren't the winner. :-( I would like to bid on that cyberstorm accelerator card with the 233 mhz 603 someone from england has but it is already too high for my blood. Better luck next time.
-
I think it just goes to show that Video Toaster's still rock! I have one myself. It's sit's right next to my G4 that runs Final Cut Pro. I love it!

:-? When did this happen? Whatever became of the A1000 you were looking to customize?

I was gonna bid on that CyberStormPPC too. Until it hit £300.
Whats utterly crazy is that it sold for £602!! That is more than you can get a brand new one at Vesalia for. Some people have no brains in their head....
(I sold my CSPPC on eBay last year and it only fetched £210, so maybe I'm a little bitter;)
I sold my old PC on Ebay last week. I sold it for £200. The parts you can buy brand new add up to £166...
Its a sellers market, certainly!

Long story really. So here's the short version.
I lost interest and gave all my A1000 and remaining classic Amiga hardware to a fellow A-Org user here.
The long story gets really boring about searching and not finding specific hardware/software thingies, losing interest in everything Amiga in general etc.
-
Losing interest happens to us all now and then i guess! i just got the interest back and have been putting together all my babes these last weeks! even got a A4000D/060 etc of the web just so i could ripp out the goodies and put in my A4000T wich was in the closet! the A4000D itself looked like someone #### it out theyre ass but at least the goodes worked ;) now i have these Amigas up and running in my home network: A4000T/A4000D/A1200! i guess a few more soon and perhaps even my Pegasos ;).
-
Are there any brand new A4000 for sale anywhere? i've seen A1200s for like 120$ for new, pretty reasonable i think.
-
No there isnt! if im correct Sofhut or some other US dealer still has NEW mobos but no one ive seen in many years still stock A4000D! there was a limited quantity of A4000T from escom for a while but that has also dried up! if youre lucky enough to find a NEW boxed A4000D or T for that matter be prepared to pay a shock high price as the only way youre gonna find one these days is from a crazy collector! then again we could all be lucky and some one finds a warehose with brand new machines tomorrow and sell them for 1 dollar each :).
