I am having problems setting up a 4.3GB SCSI HD in os3.9 or any os for that matter. I am using the original SCSI drivers downloaded from aminet iirc. My SCSI HD is set to unit 1 and my CDRom is unit 6. The CDRom works fine. When I try to use HDToolBox on my 1230scsi.device it pops up a screen several times about a "Phase" error.
Help please!

Does your system 'see' the drive?
Can you 'Read Configuration' of the drive from HDToolbox?
Are you using the WB3.1 Install disk btw?

Whenever I select 123scsi.device those "Phase" error screen keep popping up. After about 4 or 5 times closing them it will take me to the next screen. Only the CDRom shows up on this screen. I have tried this in 3.1 and in 3.9.

Do you have another HD in the system, otherwise, how are you using a CD filesystem?
Am I missing something obvious?

I have a 2.5" IDE drive in the system. Just want another HD for storage.

Is the drive known good working? I've seen phase errors on other systems and it usually has meant something has gone wrong on the drive itself. Try a low-level on another system to see if that helps.
You might also want to apply the newest SCSI rom with blizkick to see if that helps. I never had problems with the old one, but all I used was CD and Zip.

Well it worked a week ago.. I think it has LINUX on it... would that make the Amiga mad?

I doubt it. A phase error sounds like a hardware problem. Occasionally I get phase errors on my setup too. (In my case the circuitry on the hard drive is flakey.) The problem with SCSI is that not all SCSI drives are compatible with all SCSI controllers.

Could it have anything to do with the reset jumpers or terminator jumpers on the drive? Off in both cases.
