Wow well I finally got the game installed (thanks to the person who linked me to the newset version of installer) And what a game! Personally I rate it higher than Xtreme racing, although Xtreme racing needs a less powerful system. It's just a pity there's not a happy medium between 160x128 and 320x256... Makes me almost want an '060

You're welcome ;-) Do you have a gfxcard? There's an RTG patch out there.

Huh? The engine is impressive - but the gamplay? Boring and stupid enemies, boring tracks, no weapons or other 'fun' things to keep you entertained....
-
That's all I wanted though, Just to race round a 3d track, I know there's no weapons but then it has more tracks than Xtreme Racing I think.
I'm just on an '030 A1200, so no RTG here :-P

Hmmm weird. I always thought Flyin' High was one of the most boring, unplayable heaps of rubbish i'd ever had the misfortune to part with hard earned cash for, whereas Xtreme Racing was a game of such supreme playability that I rated it even better than Mario Kart on the SNES, and I *love* mario kart ;-)
In fact, back in my college days, i'd take my Amiga round to my PC owning friends house. We'd play Doom on his PC for half an hour or so, and then play XTR for hours on end..
-
afaik Flying high has SHOOTING and turbo but thats about it :-) , consult the manual to find the controls for using that i guess..
XTR is the king of all karting games , flying high is for me flying low and has ran out of gas....
cheers

Shame nobodys redone XTR for high res ... AGA Super Skidmarks looks increadible in it's highresiness, especially in linkup where you get the whole track split between 2 monitors!
(I had to say that, I havn't mentioned Skidmarks in over a fortnight)
So are there any other good 3D racing games peeps should look out for?
-
I'm thinking of getting super skidmarks actually, I have skidmarks and it's great but I don't like swapping 4 disks over and over and I gather super skidmarks has an HD install :-)

Nothing bad about 'just racing'. But the computer opponents in Flyin High are extremely stupid, and the tracks are boring too, IMHO.
but then it has more tracks than Xtreme Racing I think.
I don't think so. XTR has 16 tracks (IIRC) and 4 bonus tracks. Did you know that there's a data disk (http://www.back2roots.org/Games/Find/?find=xtreme+racing) available? Another 20 tracks and even a track editor. There used to be tons of other tracks available from the net.

Help me get my CD-Rom working and I'll download it... I'm not gonna even attempt that many disks with crossdos :-o

The main Super Skidmarks had HD install, but the tracks stayed on disks. Then there was the addon which included a track installer too, and took the disk count up to 11 or 12 disks!
Bit of a moot point now though :-)
-
Played with the BTTR copy there, and it's limited to the original game, went back to my original copy, and the expansion pack was 5 disks - 4 with tracks on plus a replacement program disk, with the installer on.

Hi Robert
Go on our page and install all Patches...
-
just to say it...
my XTR 1.2 install is 27MB big , over 200 tracks and over 20 leagues (+ the orginal ones).
My ULTIMATE XTR has abit over 100 tracks with some anims etc , but id like to mention that ULTIMATE XTR (XTR 2.0) was abandoned in the middle of the project and just sold AS IS.... since alive died...or something.
so i doubt that Flyin high is bigger :-)
cheers

Flying High looks neat, but as mentioned, it plays quite bad.
I really love XTR though. There a couple of other racing games like it that I know of. Check those :
Joyride : http://hol.abime.net/?id=4338
Haven't played it but it looks ok.
Street Racer : http://hol.abime.net/?id=3954
The saturn/playstation version is darn fun. This version is a port of the Megadrve/Genesis version and is unfortunately less fun.
Racer : http://hol.abime.net/?id=1528
Couldnt get it to work on my old machine. Havent tried on my new.
Virtual GP : http://hol.abime.net/?id=1578
One of the best looking classic amiga games there is that wont require a gfx-card. Great game!
Virtual Karting : http://hol.abime.net/?id=1579
So,so. Look quite chunky but runs fast, even on a stock A1200.
Virtual Karting 2 : http://hol.abime.net/?id=1580
Could be better. Quite fun to play but lacks challenge.
Wipeout 2097 : http://hol.abime.net/?id=1737
If you have PPC you can get one of the best racing games ever...
Oh well, give me the classic Lotus 3 any day...

Funny you should mention that... I always had a copy but could never use it, wouldn't run on my A1200, now it does, from the HD too! (Thanks to WHDLoad)
:-D

Lotus Trilogy was released on CD32 and included all 3 games correctly tooled to work on a higher spec machine (Lotus 1 original doesn't IIRC). Thats the one to have :-)
Then there's Test Drive 2, basically Lotus 4 :-D

@Imerion
WOW! I never knew Virtual GP existed.........Had I known I would have owned this game a long time ago! these people are so dumb.....they do NOT know how to advertise.........this is why alot of Amiga Game and software companies fail............lack of adverts or proper ones.
Anyway.where can I get the game? as well as some of the others?
