Title: What's more susceptible to static?

I have to pack up a load of my stuff as I'm moving, and a fair bit of it is just lying around. The things is, a lot of it is Amiga hardware outside of systems, and I don't have enough antistatic packaging for it all. Anything I should really prioritise? Can anyone advise how much static really is a problem? I always handle everything with care and have never had a problem.

Is anal retentive hyphenated?


You could just touch a  metal lamp/heater (plugged in ) or a central heating system to discharge the static... better still connect a piece of wire around your waste and tie it to said object..

I , on the other hand,  would not bother and  just pile everything together into a  big box;
no precautions and I've never zapped anything...


but then again i don't live in a house with deep shag-pile carpets  that transform me into a mutant miss magneto

Go to an electronics parts store and buy anti-static bags. They aren't very expensive, at least not here in Canada. It's the only way to make sure that your stuff doesn't get zapped. It's worth it, especially if you plan to move some expensive Amiga hardware.

I don't have carpets at all in my house, thankfully. A giant hotel for dustmites is all carpets are.

However, carpets do sometimes have their advantages... ;-)

yeah I should do - the only thing is that a lot of electronics suppliers won't sell you less than a hundred, and then that has to be in one particular size...

edit: I can actually remember your nick correctly now! I've been meaning to ask, what's the significance? It it some kind of coordinates?

Have you tried doubling cards up in the anti-static bags?   That's what I usually do when I run out of bags...  If you still have card left over, I'd take blobrana's advice and stick them in a cardboard box...  I have two boxes worth of old PC ISA/VL-Bus cards from my early 486/Pentium days.  Most of the cards worked the last time I tried them (of course that was something like 5-7 years ago).

Cardboard/paper is good (plastic NOT good!), and it has the advantage of being biodegradeable :-D

Really winds me up when people use bubblewrap straight on, that stuff can hold lots of static.
