Hi,
I have two A1200 setups, both with 060/50 accelerators, one towered with a Mediator and Voodoo 3. I'm in desperate need of some money and space, and so unfortunately I have to stoop as low as selling one :-(.
Anyway, here's the deal. The tower setup is a pretty serious machine which I've used for ages as my main computer, right up until the hard disk popped and I lost around 10gb of stuff :-x. This was a year ago, and since then I've been using a PC as I don't have the time or money to refit a new HD and install from scratch. The system has also been robbed of its monitor, floppy and CD Rom, so it's basically pretty useless now.
The other machine is an immaculate desktop wedge from the escom era (it's got the new Amiga logo sticker). I've hardly used it, but it works perfectly.
My question is, which one do I sell?
My power amiga needs have been pretty much satisfied with WinUAE to date, which has so far been about a zillion times faster than my tower. But still, I've spent so much money and time on the tower that even the thought of selling it hurts.
My options are:
1) Sell the tower, accelerator, motherboard, and mediator+voodoo seperately, and keep my wedge for the retro programming and games.
2) Do up my tower with the bits from the wedge, then sell the wedge.
3) Sell either the wedge or the tower as a complete system.
Obviously 1) is going to get me the most money and space while still allowing me access to a power amiga (UAE) and a retro amiga. But, I feel like I'm selling my soul!!!
What do I do??!?! :-x :-x :-x :-x

Sell em both! :-D

I've not been without an Amiga since 1990, so I don't want to sever the ties completely.. seems wrong.
I want to keep at least one. Even if I rarely use it, I know that one day I'd regret selling everything Amiga I own, know what I mean?
-
In your situation, I'd keep the desktop.
Nice and white, classic shape - looks like an Amiga, small footprint.
Tower is just a tower, and if you aren't gonna have loads of cards and hard disks and use the Amiga as your main machine, do you need it?
I happen to like the original cases of Amigas :-)

I'd go with option 1. Sell the tower and keep the wedge for whatever you can't get to run under WinUAE. Since you'll be using windows, get a jar and put it next to you PC. Lable it lable it "Swear Jar", put a penny in every time you swear and soon you'll have enough for an AmigaOne. :-D

Yeah, sell the tower (real cheap) so I can buy it from ya!!!
I need more horsepower to cross debug with my A530 via parnet.
-
If your tower was an original A4000T I would say keep it, but as the two machines are based on the same motheboard, I'd say sell the tower. Also the wedge is a pure Amiga, so for sentimental reasons it is better than the tower, if you are only going to use it to run classic games.
I actually miss my A1200. It was great for showing people anims and graphics. Just pop it into a bag and off you go.

I know the feeling, I was in desperat need of money so sold of my A4000T/060 and kept my A1200/030 and boy did I regret that up to the day when I got hold of an A4000T/PPC again. :-D
If you need the most money and most space then there's only the option of selling the tower in bits or as a hole. Remember you'll have to live with the knowledge that you've sold of you're phat Amiga then...
If you need "some" money then remember that a 060/50 card retrievs a nice bit of cash and you could use the rest of the bits from the small system on the tower. That way although you've sold something you've actually improved the best Amiga you have and it could be a nice tradeoff for you're wallet and soul. (I've always thought it's better with one realy phat Amiga than a few middle range ones.)

I also say sell the tower, but sell it off part by part. You will get much more money for it. i sold my A3000 complete and later saw the parts go for much more then I thought they would. If you sell the Voodoo and any PCI cards with the Mediator it will make it more attractive. Sell it on Ebay.com the US site too. Americans pay so much more for Amiga it seems then the rest of the world.

Thanks for the replies!
It's strange that when I read my original post over again, it seems obvious that my mind was already made up before I wrote it. I guess I was just looking for some kind of reassurance :-D.
I have some kind of attatchment to the desktop, even though I've rarely used it, and it's not a 'real' old fart machine as it's not got the C= logo . The tower is.. well.. its got so many hacks that it's more borg than human :-o.
I've got this strange burning desire to go all retro for a while. I just dug out a whole load of old amiga books, including the original RKMs and some other interesting programming titles. I want to dim the lights, find my Dpaint 4 and Elite discs, and listen to that floppy drive thrash!
For some reason, the more 'phat' my tower got, the more I lost touch with the original Amiga stuff. I got more into web browsing, irc and generally getting far too distracted by the pretty colours and lovely speed to actually *do* anything with it. Am I insane?
Anyway, I'm rearranging the stuff tonight. I'll build myself a mean wedge, dig out the 'ol TV, and sell the rest. I'll post on the Amiga on Ebay forum as soon as I get a list together!
Out of interest, how much would an Apollo 060/50 with 32Mb 60ns RAM go for? I also have a Blizzard 1260, but I'd rather keep that one 8-).
I'm in the UK so I'd rather not ship too far abroad, but then the item is quite small, so I'd consider it.
Cheers,
David

Over a ton on a good day.

If you sell it on ebay.com you should get a few hundered easy. Since you can accept paypal in the UK its easy to do.
-
Is it easy selling on other countries ebays? Can you use the same account?
-
Are all the A1200 060 boards worth pretty much the same?
And what about A1200 vs A4000 boards..is there that much difference in what you can get for those? (Assuming all RAM amounts are the same).
-
Apollo or Winner 1260 usually catch about 2/3 the Price a Blizzard 1260 would get.
regarding A1200/A4000 boards: a blank A1200 Board is nearly worthless the 3.1 ROM being worth more then the rest of it, while a bare A4000 Board can catch quite a sum if in good shape. Especially with Buster 11 and Kick 3.1 you can get 100 EUR easy for a blank A4000 board.

4) Sell all your Amigas and buy a Pegasos (or an Amiga One) :D
Since that wasn't your choice, I'd keep the wedge and part out the otehr stuff...you'll get more interest that way and probably more overall return.
I practically gave my stuff away in quest to get a new PPC machine.
