Post by: Cyberus on August 16, 2004, 03:42:10 AM
everything and makes it dirty.

I was just wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to still get Amiga dustcovers?
I suppose it is possible to make your own...

And put UV filters on the windows to stop that yellowing

Heh, what are you doing up at this hour? Can't sleep? :-)

edit: Doh! Vesalia have them...

Playing around setting up my father's new PC and screwing up my biorythm. And you, sir :-).

Anyhoo, back ontopic: I never really saw the point of dustcovers. Most junk and filth which gets in the single case miggies is debris generated by usage anyway (skin particles, hair, food debris, coffee spills etc).

My sleep pattern is screwed at the moment :-(

The reason I want dustcovers, is I have a few machines, and not all of them are in use 24/7. Plus, I plan to be away from home for extended periods in the coming months, and things do get dusty after a few weeks....

Hmm, I once had a C128 with an official! CBM cover that might've fit a 500.

...But if you're just looking to spare things while you're away, there's always newspaper, tin foil (heh), or saran wrap if you're not overly paranoid of static...  Or overturned drawers, if you want a lazy solution that nets you some extra desk space when not in use.

Vesalia (http://www.vesalia.de/) seems to have dustcovers for A600, A1200 and A4000.

Just a note.  The Vesalia A1200 cover is fabric (funky stuff too!), but the A600 cover is a molded and tinted plastic.  Both work really well, the A600 hard cover is very nice as it fits perfectly around the floppy button, etc.

Hmm, so in relation to this thread, I was just at Staples (office supply chain on this side of the planet), and found sets of 6 stacking 'letter' trays, clear or black, for something like $7.

The interesting thing is that they're designed perfectly for a number of off-label uses.  Open on the wide side, vented on the sides (all the way 'down' to the tray), and with an inch-high notch across the width of the back that suddenly becomes a cable slot if inverted.

Inner dimensions are: 8.75" 'deep,' 12.5" wide, 2.25" high; the tray/shelf has a similar notch in the front that takes it back to 7.5" 'deep' across most of the width.

...

Upside-down, you end up with a set of 'shelves' that could easily hold a stack of hubs or other lightweight equipment... like the Magnavox tuner I use with my old 1802.  You also gain a 'free' shelf that way, for not having one tray at desk level... and used individually, they could serve as dust covers/space-savers for small hardware; just push one back over the wires when you need to access the keyboard.

Downside is that I just looked up the specs on the 600, and according to emugaming, it's "14" deep x 9.5" wide x 3 high."  ... So maybe these aren't going to work, but legal-sized trays might.
