I've been looking for an Amiga 1200 or 4000 for a while now. Since the prices they go for on eBay are outrageous and they always get snapped up instantaneously whenever they show up on Craig'sList (http://www.craigslist.org) for decent prices I figure I might as well offer to trade something of near-equal worth for one.
What I'm offering (http://www.craigslist.org/pen/bar/38640837.html) is a near-mint (it was purchased as NOS and has been kept in very good shape) Atari Lynx and six games- STUN Runner, Rampart, Chip's Challenge, Xybots, Klax and Steel Talons. I've also got a screen shield, carrying case (hence the good condition) and a D-cell battery pack I've only occasionally used.
Any takers?

Well I don't know about the US, but here in the UK Atari Lynx consoles generally go for about 2 quid and A4ks go for about 120 quid. So thats a bit of a {bleep} deal.

Always got something positive to say....

Hey I was only telling it how it is. Somebody may swap an a1200 for it if he's lucky...

That's roughly how much I paid for the Lynx. Dunno about the UK, but Lynxes are somewhat rare in the US.

The lynx is far from rare here in the US. I just did a search on ebay and it seems they close at the $20 price range. Here is a huge list of them currently on auction.

OK, I'm right {bleep}ed.

I will trade you an Amiga 1200 for an Atari Mega ST computer. The Atari Mega ST computer MUST be in like new condition and come with its original box (also in like new condition). Also, I see Amiga 1200s sell for around $125 on eBay all the time. I see Amiga 4000s go for around $400. Computers are like women- you never stop spending money on them. :-D

Well, really, this guy doesnt want people telling him how bad of a ripoff it would be for trading. He is only offering somebody a swap if they feel like it regardless of the price.
I like the Atari 2600 though ALOT. :-D

@Doomy
Is your Amiga 1200 in excellent condition in the box? I have a nice clean Atari MegaST4 with manual but no box or keyboard. I cannot find a nice Mega Keyboard to save my life, do you know where to find one?

Man, if I were New Guy, I'd be thinking, "Those Amiga.org folks are a bunch of a**holes!"
In all seriousness, an Atari Lynx for an Amiga 1200 seems like an unfair trade, but there may be an ultra-mega-mega Atari geek out there somewhere willing to do it.

Okay, I was busy earlier when I saw this topic. Should have stepped in then.
A few of you here need to read the Posting Guidlines (http://www.amiga.org/modules/sections/index.php?op=viewarticle&artid=6) a few times. Personal attacks will not be tolerated.
You don't like the offer the guy made, don't respond. He obviously doen't know the current valuations. All someone needed to do and was done, was to correct him in what the current market values are.
-
@ Cyberus
lorddef was just providing him some constructive criticism. Informing Computolio of the current market prices in the UK, since he has no location listed. Oh, and that he thinks it's a fubar deal.

An Atari Lynx with 6 games and a carrying case is about the same or higher value as an un-upgraded desktop A1200 I reckon - £40 or so (Ebay (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=38597&item=8120769786&rd=1))
It's not such a bad deal.

I may have wandered into perceived value territory. A special purpose game console (perhaps more--I'm not up on Lynx hacking) doesn't really compare to a general purpose computer in my book. I don't see myself paying ~$75 for a Lynx and a few games . . . but I'd pay $75 for a used A1200. That's the magic of eBay, isn't it? There's always someone willing to pay more.
Just out of curiosity, how much does an average candy bar cost in the UK?
-
I know now that that the Lynx itself isn't worth all that much. I paid for it new long after it was discontinued, and I've taken excellent care of it, so I thought it might still retain some of it's initial value.
I do have some other things I can try to throw in, like an A500 expansion chassis with hard drive controller and RAM board, and/or an A1000 with an internal 2MB RAM expansion.
Another reason for the price confusion is that where I live in the US, Amiga stuff pops up only once in a blue moon, and when it does, whoever's selling it is often selling it at get-it-out-of-my-house prices. Except on eBay, of course, but after seeing people over there pay $200 for a very obviously broken Cyberstorm board (true story), I've tended to dismiss eBay prices as insanity.

I don't really eat chocolate, but I guess a bar would cost between about 35p and 50p, which, even with the strong Pound, will probably seem a lot to you...
~ 75c - $1 I guess?

I'd just like to note that my post contained "Personal Attacks" directed toward DoomMaster and not at the new guy, so I think that is fine. I think this guys offer is fine. I was just defending him from one of DoomMasters usual idiotic posts (which he has now edited above so you wont see what he really posted).
Good luck trading the Lynx. It's a pretty cool system.
