This will be my games machine...ever since this came out (the hd kit) I've wanted it but never had the money when I was a kid...  Very fun stuff!!

Hey I just bought a kit too!  AdIDE2 and Novia mounting kit.  Do tell me what all you need to do to get it mounted/working.  What kind of laptop IDE drives work?  I have some small ones like 60MB and 80MB, but also have some larger ones, like 1.2GB and 4GB.  I wonder if those work.  I know they work on my 600HD and 1200, but wonder if they do on the 500 and 1.3.

well, I'm going to find out Monday if a 2.5 gig works.. I only had this 84meg lying around..   Its a snap to hook up..just pull off the cpu, plug in controller, plug cpu into controller and hook up the cables.  I only have 1.2 roms so I cant autoboot.. I'm probably going to buy Red's 1.3 ROM he has on ebay as I need it.  But I need a few A500 parts too.. :(

Sweet! :-)  I remember looking at those things in AmigaWorld and wishing I could have one.. ended up with an A590 instead with one of those nasty, slow, loud 20 meg XT drives.
After that it was a Trumpcard 500 AT and a 170 meg IDE drive, which was a MUCH better setup.

I've got one of those A590 hard drive units. If you yank out the 20 MB HD, and put in a nice SCSI drive, they run excellently. I wouldn't mind trying out a IDE hack for the 500, although I think my SCSI drive runs better in my 500 than an AT drive would.

Why don´t you just step over to a kickstart 3.1 chip ??? That way you´ll have a real A500 with loads of more possibilities !! Plug in a turboboard and you will even be able to use OS 3.9 from your harddrive (without limitations) and still be able boot an old game from your floppy !!!
Been there and done that  :-)

@TheMagicM

Did you install the LED from the AdIDE2 to the floppy LED as per the manuals?  I am thinking about doing this on mine.

Hi TheMagicM,

Let me know how this works out for you.  I am thinking about installing one of these in my Amiga 500 Tower.  Also try hooking up a CD ROM drive and see how well it works.  I have the CD File System software for Workbench 1.3.  Let me know if you need it and I can email you the disk in a DMS file.   :-D

I do not recommend that.  I would use the power LED instead as the hard disk LED.  The disk drive LED lets you know if the disk is still spinning or is being accessed so that you do not eject the disk.  It is dangerous to run a disk drive without an LED.  I did this for a while on one of my Amiga 2000 computers and damaged several disks because I ejected them while they were still spinning.

Hi TheMagicM,

I can probably steal a 1.3kickstart from a canabalized a500 I have in the garage (have a few actually pulled to bits)

If you wish, pay postage from Oz to Usa and its yours :-)

Maybe the amiga.org users should get together and do a virtual swap meet kind of thing online, check the bits'n'peices they have lying around collecting dust and have no appreciable value except to other needy amiga users

I know I have loads of Amiga stuff lying around from various machines like a500's... floppy drives, cases, working motherboards, chips, cables, keyboards that sit in the garage doing nothing while some amiga user could really appreciate and use it.

Because then he would not be able to run many of the vintage Amiga games.  Not every Amiga computer has to have Kickstart 3.1.  It really depends on what you want to do with the machine.   :-)

Heeheeheheh!  :-D

Chuck that Connor before it chucks your data!  :-(

My brother who once used Amiga lost several of his programmed games and music modules because his connor broke one day.... And all of the hard drives that broke were Connor..  :-o

Oh, by the way guys, the guy on US ebay selling these ICD products, has ripped me for $122. I paid him for some items inc shipping to UK, and in the period leading up to the transactions and on the day of the transaction I have no less that 10 emailed from him. Since I paid him, I haven't received a single one, despite 4 emails from me.

I'm currently filing a fraud complaing against him. All his bible-bashing rhetoric - "God bless you and all in your house" and "God speed" in his emails, was that part of the con?
God speed my arse, I didn't think Jesus was a fraudster.

That A500HD was sold on ebay a few days ago.  But I have another, has that 3.2 gig hd (only 2.1 is recognized though!), 2.04 roms.

BoingBoss: The AdIDE works GREAT.  I like it because its compact and it just is pretty cool to have a internal 2.5" hd in a A500. :)

TjLaZer: I hooked up a LED to the AdIDE interface.  I *might* do the floppy LED thing but I dont know...kinda want to put a thin LED throgh the 500's case.

Cyberus: How odd.  I'm having the same problem w/that guy.  I bought 2 AdIDE interfaces not going through ebay and it worked.. he has ALOT of Amiga hardware..so I offered to buy more, so I bought 2 A500's (untested) and 1 A540 ram expansion all for $72 shipped.  Have not recieved them in 1 month.  (If you look at my acct on ebay you'll see I bought 'spam' which is acutally the Amiga stuff.  That way he can get another ebay feedback and so could I).   Also, a friend of mine here in San Antonio bought a AdIDE and has not recieved it either.   I have  filed a complaint w/Paypal to get my money back but I'd rather have the hardware.  I've even called the # he has listed with ebay but nobody answers, it just goes to a mailbox.

Hi TheMagicM,
I arranged a buy-it-now with him, for A LOT of stuff, called 'spam2' - I noticed your transaction in his feedback profile actually. Another user on here had a similar problem, I believe it was someone who's actually posted on this thread. I have done the first stages of fraud complaint with ebay - I'll contact PayPal soon as well. Like you though, I'd rather have the goods.
I'm glad you tried phoning him - ebay's autogenerated response says that I should get his contact details and phone him, but I don't fancy phoning the US!
Please let me know if you hear anything.

Regards

Hi Acill,
Are you sure? That's extremely kind of you. I have done the contact details request thingy on ebay, I'm just waiting for the details to be emailed to me. The only thing is, TheMagicM said he tried to contact him by telephone, to no avail...

Regards

Yep..I call at all times of the day.. heck, let me call now, again.

I called on your behalf of you (I mentiond your spam2 auction) and left a message.  As always, nobody answered.
I have also emailed 2 of his auction winners for his contact info.

You want his #

815-243-2981
Sheldon Garcia

One day I wish someone locally or in Texas would try to rip me off, that would be a good day.

Woah..hold yer horses... looks like I found his phone # other then the one listed above..I called and nobody answered..I'll call later on today to see if its really him, if it is I will post it. LOL
Anyone have his complete address?

It just gets me pissed off.  Why do that anyway??  I mean, I'm guilty of shipping items a little late (although its been a while since I've done that) but I've never NOT shipped something.   I'm almost positive this new # is his.  I threw away the box he sent the AdIDE interfaces in so I dont know his street address.  We'll find him.

Are you guys speaking of maxxdoo?

Item number: 5114646008 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=5114646008&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT)

My own personal-about-to-file-fraud-with-ebay experience.  The shipping amount alone warrants action.
