Title: Monitor died... what now?
Post by: textory on August 06, 2004, 08:31:17 AM
Hi,

a friend of mine just mailed me that his C1084 monitor died. He's now a bit desperate. In the place where he lives (Extremadura/Spain - which is not exactly what I'd call a centre of microelectronics and computerhardware ... just bulls and sheep, cheese and chorizo;-) he won't find Amiga Hardware. He also has a PIII-Notebook and a TV-Monitor (PAL with cinch video input). That's his equipment.

I never tried to connect my A2000 to the TV because the TV got no video-in, just the old fashioned HF-antenna, so I cannot try myself. Therefore I ask you guys:

What could he do? Any suggestions to bring his A2000 back to the screen until he finds an adequate monitor? Just connecting the video-out of the A2000 with the video-in of the tv? Or does he need a HF-modulator in between...?

Thanks in advance

By a Scandoubler from
http://www.amigasuperbit.com/indexcataloge/615.htm

and use any SVGA monitor with it.

Indeed, the scandoubler really is an option. Thanks for the link.

But I'd like to know how (and if) it works to connect a pal tv to the Amiga via video-out... You know it could take some time to receive things ordered from an internet shop, and in the meantime the Amiga should not wait in a corner ;-)

The scandoubler is NOT for TVs as Amigas can connect  to a TV anyway using a A2032 TV Modulator (see
http://www.amiga-hardware.com/) or to a Composite monitor via Composite port

Yes, he should be able to connect the Video out to the Video In on a Pal TV or VCR.  The only thing is, if I recall correctly, is that the Video out on the A2000 is Black/White only, not color.

If you can find one a tv modulator for the amiga 500 would work with it  .

Easy fix here, and he lives in a good place for the solution!

First he must take a live sheep and sacrifice it to the Amiga God of Video "Flickeriety" while dancing arround a blazing fire and painted like a boing ball under a full moon on a tuesday. If he does this all will be fine!!

Getting more serious a VGA monitor and a scan doubler is the best solution.
