I've been fiddling around with the SIMMs on the mobo, to try and get 16MB Fast RAM. Since it had two 4MB SIMMS in it when I got it, I tried adding a couple more 4MB SIMMS (I tried another three or so, two worked). But I eventually came to the conclusion that the 4th SIMM socket is probably damaged (I could get a maximum of 12MB Fast)
Assuming this to be the case, I thought, 'not to worry', since I can put 2 8MB SIMMS in sockets 1 and 3. So far I've tried three double sided FPM 8MB SIMMS, to no avail.
I just wanted to check, I can use two 8MB SIMMs, rather than 4x4MB ones can't I?

Yes you can use two 8's but you need to install in 2nd and 4th slots.

Thanks for the reply
Bugger, so if the 4th SIMM slot IS toasted, I won't have any way of getting the full 16MB of Fast... :-(

You may still be in luck. Some 4MB SIMMs do not work well in 4000's. I had some trouble getting them to work upto 16MB, so try the 8MB SIMMs and good luck!
