Title: Difference between A500+ 2.04 ROM and A600 2.05 ROM?
Post by: StevenJGore on August 02, 2004, 12:40:23 PM
The latest version of WinUAE (0.9.90 with automatic ROM detection) has got me thinking about ROM's. I legally own a 2.04 ROM, but WinUAE is asking for a 2.05 ROM for it's A600 quickstart config. Since I don't own an A600 and don't want to have to buy one just to get a ROM image, I was wondering if I could just use the 2.04 ROM image from my A500+ in my own A600 WinUAE config? Anybody know the actual differences between 2.04 and 2.05?

Thanks!
Steve.

There is detailed info here (http://www.gregdonner.org/workbench/wb_205.html).

It seems theres 3 versions of WB/Kickstart all called "2.05". Workbench 37.71 and 37.72 are both 2.05 releases, and Kickstart 37.299, 37.300, 37.350 are all 2.05 releases.

The enhancements over 2.04 are:

* Support for hard drives larger than 40MB (from Kickstart v37.350)
* Support for high-density floppy drives
* Support for PCMCIA slots via "CC0:" device (from Kickstart v37.300)
* Support for internal IDE (from Kickstart v37.300)
* Recoverable RAM drive renamed to RAM_0:
* Included "PrepCard" on the Extras disk for the PCMCIA slot

The only difference between Workbench 37.71 and 37.72 is the removal of "say", "narrator.device" and "translator.library".

I believe the only real difference between the two is that 2.05 has support for the A600´s internal IDE port...

Edit: Someone was quicker than me...  :-)

Thanks for the replies guys! :-)

The exact version of the 2.05 ROM that WinUAE requires for A600 emulation is 37.350. The exact version of my A500+ 2.04 ROM is 37.175. Looks like I may have to get an A600 just for the ROM, although I may just settle for A500+ emulation, where the only difference is the ROM version (both have ECS, 1MB RAM etc). :-)
