Hope you are going to enjoy it :-D

If you have any ideas, feel free to post @ the forum :-)

Wasn't our screenshots section good enough for you?

You can just ask for a seperate new category and we'd consider it...

There is already an AmigaOS 4.0 category, but we haven't really publicized it like we should I suppose.

Hi' Mike

Your screenshot section is fine, but I bought this domain... didn't know what to use it for... Was a thread on AmigaWorld.net about needing a screenshot gallery for Amiga OS 4.x, and I made it.

Not to offend Amiga.org (I read Amiga.org almost as much as AmigaWorld.net).

Don't aw.net have an OS4 screenshots gallery?

No offence taken per se, but you can imagine us being slightly miffed because we are trying to provide as decent a service to the community as we can, and this could be taken as a bit of a permanent way of telling us that we're not good enough...

Done some looking, but just don't have the time on my hands to spend.  I'm wondering where I can get MooVId, Amplifier and Dvplayer for AOS4 ??

I use AmigaAMP with mpeg.library native OS4 PPC.

Dvplayer and Moovid are for OS4 betatester only yet, Moovid will be part of the final OS4 and maybe of the next update.

@Wayne and staff
Sorry it was not intended to mean that amiga.org gallery isn't good, but it is only a new website dedicated to OS4 shots.

And i can't upload big screenshots here, or has been changed?

Is 1600 x 1200 not big enough?

You wrote to me times ago: "MAx file size is 100k"

The problem is the kb limit. Have you changed it? :-)

Post by: on August 01, 2004, 04:07:40 AM
About a year ago.  I think the current limit is 300k, but anyone who can't make a screenshot smaller than 100k doesn't need to own an Amiga.

@SilvrDrgn
www.os4depot.net

@Wayne
So? I'm an idiot because my screenshot in 1280x1024 is bigger than 100k? Sure i can make it much more smaller but i saved it jpg quality 100... i like to have a clean screenshots. Thanks for the kind Wayne.

@ikir,

You picked the wrong day to try to pick a fight with me sir.  You can easily save JPG files at 80% (20% compression) with zero artifacts or other issues.  The fact that you choose not to is your choice.  There's also the fact that you show an extreme lack of courtesy to others (and disrespect of the site) by uploading such a huge, uncompressed file.

Not everyone is anal about simplistic screenshots.

I prefer this new os4 gallery, cause the amiga.org gallery downsizes/downsamples the pictures to a lower resolution, so you cant see how the real quality is... I would have liked the amiga.org gallery if it showed the proper resolution. That is my opinion, no offense intended.

I dunno if this limit is still the case, but most screenshots there are still 600x450 or something, which does not really show the true quality of the OS.

Then you better understand why people make an alternative gallery aswell, for those people who like to see the true quality of the picture.. I cant see how you can say that ikir started a fight either, all he was doing was posting his site. :-(

May I be so bold to suggest a compromise?

The idea of having screenshots in the AOrg's gallery is a good one, and enriches the site as a community resource.

But some people like to see the whole image, in 'realistic' quality, so having the option available, such as on a dedicated site, where space is not a premium is also a good idea.

So why not have both?

I personally am on dialup (nothing faster available here in the countryside), so whether or not I want to see large images, they hog my bandwidth to the extent that I won't usually bother. But if I *did* have a faster connection, I might want to see the image in all its glory:-)

:-)
Regards,
Cyberus

@Tomas

It isn't my website neither.

@Wayne
Lack of courtesy? Where? i only asked if the limit was removed. I don't see any lack of courtesy and disrespect of the site.
Title: Re: Amiga OS4 shots from around the world
Post by: on August 03, 2004, 12:27:49 PM
I personally don't care if there's another site (or a dozen for that matter) on the Web to publish screenshots.  More power to them.  I've simply sat here and heard people tell me repeatedly about non-existent limits and what I consider complaints about our own screenshot gallery.

For the record, having just checked, the limits are 1600 x 1200 and 300kb.  The images are NOT resized, though if the people complaining had any concept of what they were talking about, they would know that when we upgraded the module about 6 months ago, there was an accident that resized all images automatically.  Nothing I can do about that, or I would have.

Ikir,

Sorry.  I should not have commented at all.  I know for a fact that there is nothing left on any subject that I can say any more without drawing criticism from or being blown out of proportion by the members of this site.

If anyone here had any idea what I was really going through....

And i hope my crazy antics don’t add to your inner torment...

In RL, no, but I could plainly see the aggravation you were getting for requesting that a couple of people change their avatars. You were perfectly entitled to ask them to, and perfectly entitled to be pissed off when they were being awkward.

As a user said on another thread, its not even about whether it was a reasonable request or not. If I go round someone's house and they ask me to take my shoes off at the door, I don't stand there arguing about how my shoes are not dirty, I take them off - common courtesy...

If people are being unreasonable, sod 'em!

Guys,

I really am sorry.

After 10 years, I should know better than to try and help people when I'm already having a rough time of it.  Things on my end IRL are not well.  I won't go into anything because I don't need to, but I apologize if I inadvertently projected my feelings towards anyone here.

I'll butt out now, and will try not to read negative things into everything.  I have a little help putting me into that mindset, but will try not to let it affect the activities here.

Hey Wayne... I'm new here and I can tell that many of you have a lot of history together on here.  I'm sorry to hear that things are going roughly for you right now and I hope that they improve soon.  I think that this post just went the wrong direction and now that everyone realizes it I think we can get away from it.  I just wanted to add that I think you do an excellent job with this site.

Now I must leave to go install Doom 3!!!  :-D
