Title: Have a problem
Post by: Garyed40 on July 31, 2004, 05:14:29 AM
I'm running a A2000 with OS 1.3 and I need to download some software from Aminet but the PC is the only platform I can connect to the net right now..

How can I download something on the PC and get it to the Amiga? I don't have either Crossdos or messydos on the 2000

Help?

Gary

Hi Garyed40,

Wellcome to AO. Unfortunatly I don't think OS1.3 can handle CrossDos or the net. A few upgrades will be needed, like OS3.1. or you could find some one local to you like me to download what you need for you. However, stuff on the Aminet mostly requiers OS2.04+.

I might not be able to help you, but I figured I'd get the ball rolling and ask one question.

What peripherals do you have?

How big is the file?  If it's 720k or less you can format a low density floppy and put the file on it from the PC.  Then use that disk in your Amiga (I know that Amigas can read floppies formatted in 720k IBM format).  If it's larger than that you can use splitz & joinz to span more than one floppy and reassemble it on the Amiga.

Hope that helps.

Hi

Right now the only thing is a pair of Floppy drives and a 96 baud modem. The Hard disk is coming in the mail but not here yet. Which is amother problem I don't have the A2091 install disk. but thats for later

@Quiksanz

I was able to get online with an A1200 with 3.0. I don't think the OS version matters for Net connection just whether or not Net software (like Miami) will work on you version. If he has a modem, then he could connect to his IBM that way. But, who knows if he has modem software. Bet thing I can think of now is Catweasel.

Everything that wast here when 1.3 was the in thing. They don't delete stuff. Besides, he's interested in getting somthing from aminet, which means he expects it to work on 1.3. And besides besides, Lots of stuff not written specifically for 1.3 could still work on it.

@Garyed40

Idea! Buy thw Aminet CD's. :-)

@weirdani

Sure they don't delete, but they overwrite. Getting the older and 1.3-compatible version of xyz may proove difficult.

On the topic:
Get a null-modem cable, and send the files from the PC.

On the miggy side :
Well thats  a bit complicated assuming you don't have a terminal-program ready (which I would advise as 1st download).

You may try something like:
type ser: >filename (AmigaDOS-gurus might know better).

This site (http://homepage.uibk.ac.at/homepage/c725/c72578/amiga/adfsenderterminal/methods.html) has a quite detailed description on how to get the first files from PC to Amiga.

Bye,
Thomas

Hi Garyed40,

Just pmail me and tell me what you need and I can mail it to you.  Just pay me for the disks and my time.  I am happy to see another Amiga 2000 Series computer owner.  Have you removed the battery from the motherboard yet?  This is very important.  Remember, your Amiga 2000 is a high quality, German made computer, so it uses metric screws (3mm and 4mm).  Use a can of compressed air to blow the dust out of the power supply and clean or replace the 80mm fan.  Use a disk drive head-cleaning disk to clean the drive heads for about 20 seconds (I can mail you the program to do this with).    :-D

.... and the rest of the world knows that only the A2000A-model was made it in Germany, and that this one is a complete POS ......

If this is true then why do the Amiga 2000 motherboards say "Made in Germany" on them?  Also many of the boards that were made for the Amiga 2000 say "Made in Germany" on them.  Even the DRAMs on many of these boards have Germany printed on them.   :roll:
