According to the official site (http://www.avp-movie.com), the rating of this new film everyone has waited for for years, will be PG-13. This means no real violence, no scenes more than mildly frightening (for kids), and not even a particularly offensive swear word.
For a duo of genres that include action, violence, and gritty realism, that's the kiss of death. I mean, what are they going to do, film scenes of the predators shooting candelabras to make them fall on the aliens? When a human gets targetted by a predator plasma cannon he's going to fall over and say "argh" with some cgi sparks? Arghh!
This is abysmal news. If this new movie is PG-13, both predator and alien will follow the same way: into the Transformers the Movie, Thunderbirds the Movie, and Robocop the TV series land of utter crapness.

No sex scenes and nudity either? :-o
It won't be worth watching!

What happened to the good old action movies of the eighties?
I want dirty, gross, violent action a'la Terminator 2 (Which was made in the nineties. I know!)!

@Iama
If you're wanting to watch an Alien and Predator getting it on then you're one seriously sick puppy dude!

I had good hopes for this film too, but now all is lost :-(
A promising film that's been talked about for years finally gets going and it's for kids...
-
I'll make my comments after I watch the movie, however I agree...it doesn't sound too good. :-(
-
I have seen the trailers of the movie, its not bad at all.
But as the expression goes, "You cant please all the people all the time"
You have a choice either go see it or not.
-
I'll still go to see it, but I was hoping for some good violence and gore in it.
-
Violence and gore doesn't make a film, but making a movie of this type with a PG-13 rating is IMO just rank stupidity, and hints more at a cynical way of making money from hype rather than trying to make a good movie.
Take the Alien. Those horrible facehugger things catch you by the face and lay eggs in your throat. They gestate within a host, where upon it bursts from the chest cavity in a shower of blood. The alien itself as concentrated acid for blood, has claws and a tail like razors, and an inner mouth that punches through the skull of its victims, spattering brain matter everywhere.
And the Predator. An unprincipled hunter which kills its victims using extremely high powered or extremely sharp horrific weapons, then it fillets them or disembowels them, skins them, and hangs them up. Sometimes it may take the skull as a trophy (ripping it out the body along with a trailing length of spinal column), which it boils, scrapes the skin off with a sharp metal tool, and polishes.
How is ANY of this going to look in PG-13? The fact that the film won't be violent isn't what it will ruin it. The fact that it won't make any sense at all will be what does. Neither alien will be able to do what made it so famous in the other films. And nobody in the human cast will be able to respond in a realistic way to anything that's going on.
It is destined to be utter crap, not because the subject matter, not because the rating, but the two combined. It's like Reservoir Dogs II being made as a PG. It's awful. I wont' be going to see it. If I wanted to see a kid's movie I'd watch Spy Kids.

I too have very low expectations for this movie. The trailers don't impress me, it too much feels like a money grab. PG-13 though? That just doesn't make any sense. The only thing I can think is if most of the violence is between Alien and Prdator, and not humans, they will give more leeway. But still they put humans in the plot, so not mutilating them just plains sucks :-x
I can see it now.
A-v-P Saturday morning cartoon.
A-v-P Breakfast cereal.
A-v-P kiddie lunch boxes
Talking abot killing things off, it reminds me off the original-original TMNT. boy did they slaughter that :-x Oh and it gets worse, Toxic Avenger :pissed:
-
Hum,
i suppose you could spice up the premiere with a few well placed buckets of pigs blood...
< though it didn`t go down well with Carrie>

I always thought the Predator was quite a romantic figure... :-?
oh, and slime is sexy... can be sexy... sexy in context... imagine you are a snail... face hugging, that sounds quite sweet really... Giger's Alien is quite a sexual peice of art.
Come on people! You can see what I mean!

Lies. The predator had principles, see Predator 2. It didnt kill unarmed civilians and it didnt kill the female cop because she was pregnant.

I'll be sure to apologise to the Predator if I ever meet him, for my defamation of his character.
