I feel sorry for this poor A500.
-
It is inded the dirtiest Amiga I have ever seen, nevertheless I really like it (even though I don't like the A500) but that $300.00 price tag is a little wacko
But I know why he is charging that. Its because it was owned by those Artists. Don't know if I would ever pay that price for it though :-D
-
OMFG!
-
@TjLaZer
I wonder if Eyetech or Genesi will be the first to snatch the rights to that there mighty fine customized case design. ;-)
-
>>But I know why he is charging that. Its because it was owned by those Artists. Don't know if I would ever pay that price for it though
Don't think I would pay a guy who signs up for ebay a few hours earlier $300 for anything.
-
That machine is a piece of Amiga history. It's Laxity/Kefren's A500!
It's worth a lot more than $300.
It should be in a glass case in a museum somewhere.
-
I don't care if George Bush soiled an A500.
NO A500 is worth what this is going for.
This auction has SUCKER written all over it.
C Snyder
BTW, Its not even military spec :-D
-
HE WANTS HOW MUCH FOR THAT PIECE OF CRAP?! :-o
$300.00 ?! :roflmao:
GET THE F*CK OUTTA HERE !!!!

I like it. Has a touch of rat bike (http://ratbike.org/photos/y254guz.jpg) about it (which are bikes meant to be ridden, not polished, according to Rat Bike Zone (http://www.ratbike.org/)) :-D
-
Hey, my GI Joe MP has a "Rat Bike". :-D
-
If Laxity himself was selling it, I think it would be worth it. Laxity is/was one of the most influential coders in the Amiga demo scene.
I agree. It should be in a museum.
-
According to the dirt that can be seen on the picture and if it really was Laxity his computer, then Laxity must have thrown it on the junkyard and this seller must have found it ...
-
Most likely it's been to many parties.
The starting price is too high, however.. No-one will want to open up bidding at that price.
-

It looks partied out to me.
Still, Laxity is a legend and it would be great to know for sure if it is indeed Laxity's own machine.
If so then it would be great to preserve somewhere in it's current condition.

@topic
after this, i can even dye in peace . . .
"I've seen things... you people wouldn't believe... Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion ... I watched c-beams glittering in the dark near the Tanhauser Gate. All those moments... will be lost .... in time, like tears ... in rain."
I bet that even Roy has never seen a similar thing! :-)
-
I have a tidy 4 meg a500 in clean condition and with a good box and no one will even pay 35 pound for it including cost of postage. For what its worth i might as well throw it away to make some room. :-?
I bet some idiot buys that awful looking a500 though i would be ashamed to sell something in that condition i would throw it away . :pissed:
-
GAH! What the hell did he do to that poor thing?!?!?!? :-o
-
I really wanna see this now, case some kind sole, post a photo and or disciption in this forum, as websense blocks ebay in work, and i cant get on web hoseted sites like geocities either, so could someone just post here
-
Hahaha. This thread is really quite amusing. Because YES, it IS Laxity's machine and he IS the seller himself. :-D
-
I think he delibaretly made it look dirty, so that suckers would belive its genuine
-
No disrespect to the erstwhile coder, but looking at the state of it, I think "laxative" would have been a better handle. I mean it's caked in cack!
-
Personaly I don't care who owned the Amiga before me as long as it's in good shape and work.
I would surtantly not pay 300$ for an Amiga story ala "The person who owned this machine before me was..." just to see all my friend either yawn or look stupid at me while they ask if I want to buy their spair wornout carweels for only 200$ a pease as they have a history of breaking 160Mph speeding from the cops once.
This crapp belong in a dumpster or at the very best in parts on a shelf somewhere.
-
For an scener, to buy this Amiga would be like a football fan buying Pele's football boots, or an art fan buying Picasso's paint brush.
How much would a football fan pay for Pele's boots bought directly from Pele himself? Pele's old boots are probably old and worn out and dirty too, and he could probably buy some new shiny football boots for £50. But obviously Pele's boots are more valuable.
-
What's wrong with a little authentic dust and sand from King Kefren's tomb? It runs Desert Dream perfectly :P
-
Nothing at all. As pointed out, to some the dirty old machine is something they wouldn't touch. But to others, it's a priceless piece of amiga history.
I'm sure it will sell.
-
I have here an A500 that used to belong to Luis Figo ( he was my neighbour ) i want 500$ for it...
Anyone interested? :-D
-
Q: Can you guarantee that this is really the genuine Laxity's A500? How long have you had it? Did you buy it from Laxity himself or has it had several owners? Answered on Jul-28-04
A: I'm sorry if it's unclear in the ad... I _am_ actually Laxity of Kefrens... If you look closely in some of the old Kefrens or Polka brothers productions, you will see my real name Anders Emil Hansen mentioned in a few places. :o) So, it's straight to you from myself... been sitting in a case for 7 years not doing anything (the computer that is!) Regards Anders "Laxity" Emil Hansen
Do we believe him? :-)
-
Btw... i could throw in a poster of him in the deal.

Laxity sounds a lot like laxative don't it, and we know what laxatives
are designed to do.
:-D :-D
But at least that's a REAL Amiga...
The crappest Amigas in my opinion are as follows:
1. A PC running UAE/Amiga In a Box/Amiga Forever
2. The Walker (A vacuum cleaner?)
3. The Amiga MMC (Looked like a CDTV/Playstation2)
:-) :-) :-D :-)

Sigh. If you lived in the 'states, I'd pay the $75.00 (35 UKP) for it.
But as it is a PAL model, and would cost about $100 to ship to the 'states...:-/
Hey, find a church or youth organization to donate it to!
-
I'm auctioning off stupid things Doommaster has posted. Since I looked at them, and he typed them, bidding starts at $500 a post.
Who's up for it!?
-
What the F***, and he wants $300.00 for it, get the hell out of here.......
I wouldnt give 300 squirel nuts for it........

You'd have to castrate a lot of squirrels...

Nah... only about 150... or so...

The seller could have at least cleaned it up first
-
you should see the state of my amiga 1200!

Yeah.
How would you do it though? Put a rubber band around their knackers until they fell off? Besides, I bet they can be vicious f'kers..
-
@laxity
 My first C64 breadbox looked worse than your A500. I had various bbs numbers, random pokes, and even some hand drawn artwork all over it. Of course, when downloading at 300 and later 1200 baud, there is plenty of time to doodle.
-

LOL!! I've had a few very beat up A500's.. I run into them quite often so if one breaks, I give it the boot and use another.
Good luck on the auction... Were you also in the C64 scene? Cause I remember a few demo's/cracks with 'Laxity' in it. If so, its cool to actually see you post on AO..very awesome demos also!! I still have quite a bit of C64 stuff on my PC .
-
I'd want some verification, but if genuine then it'll be worth that to someone. Yes, I'm one of those that attaches value to memorabilia ...
-
@TheMagicM:
C64 Laxity is another guy. He lives in the same town as Amiga Laxity though. Funny coincidence, no? ;)
@Holley:
What more verification do you need than the guy himself saying "Yes, it's mine, I'm Laxity and I'm selling it" ? :-D
I can attest that it is the genuine Laxity. Especially because I know how much of a light-weight he is (I do hope he comes back to read this and wants to prove me wrong ^_^)
-
How can anyone have their Amiga in that condition is beyond me! I like my Amigas (and other Vintage computers) to be in pristine condition. ;)
-

Maybe someone told him computers have a "burn-in" period and he took the phrase literally.
-
Basically I'd just need something other than an email message (as has been shown anyone can say anything on the web, like "I've got a pile of PPC cards for sale" for instance ;-)).
If it's been to a bunch of parties it's not really surprising it's in a mess, is it? That's what makes it 'not just another A500' though!
-
This A500 is beautiful to me. When I look at it I see years of good fun and amazing demo parties. If I had an A500 in perfect, non-personal condition, I'd sell it for 30 bucks. You aint buying a computer. This is a story. If it doesn't mean anything to you, don't buy it.
-
@laxity
Well said. You probably said so somewhere else, but why are you selling, anyway?
-edit-
Perhaps the thread title should have been "The dirtiest amiga...". After all, dirty and crappy are totally different ;-)
-
Its a pile of sh#t end of story throw it away. :-)
-
Maybe if it came with pics of crowds around it at one of the big parties at the height of the Amiga demoscene...
Otherwise I agree that it's worth about the same as the PPC cards in that other thread...
Then again, who am I to judge? I'd bid up the machine Bill Williams used to develop his games on. Or the one Trip Hawkins stands beside in the "We See Farther" ads...
-
amigamad wrote:

Could you be any more subtle??? ;-)
-
It's nice to see you here Laxity, maybe you could fill in some memorable times in it's past?
In memorabilia sales having some history with it (photos, sketches, or just some anecdotes jotted down) can help the value lots ... plus I'm sure lots of people here would like to hear it too :-D
-
I do admit that 500 definately has been put to better use than any of my Amigas. Lots of hours of coding and use, for sure. Man that is one heavily used Amiga! But I would not pay that much for it. Even if it was Dave Haynie's! ;) Thats just me though. lol
-

I would love to, but quite frankly it all seemed to go down the sh*tter on the ferry home from The Gathering 93... Helluva party, both of them.

I actually have a few pages of pencil sketches of the intro I originally intended for Desert Dream. I'd never part with them though. Xerox, anyone? Guess I could throw in a few lines of source code for The Prey though I'm not quite sure anyone would care. Still trying to find my damn floppies! Bet AWK used them for TP in the ghettos... grrr.
