Title: WTT: Voodoo 5 AGP for Voodoo 5 PCI
Post by: redrumloa on July 22, 2004, 02:39:10 PM
Any takers? I have a Voodoo 5 AGP card I would like to trade for a Voodoo 5 PCI card. I'd also be willing to pay cash if the offer was reasonable.

I think its the wrong forum to ask people to trade away their precious Voodoo 5 PCI cards... :)

Wasn't there a guy in here which used an AGP-to-PCI converter successfully with Mediator and Voodoo 3? Perhaps you could try the same thing with Voodoo 5 and see if it works with Prometheus?

Even Elbox confirmed it, that with AGP-to-PCI adapter, Voodoo 3 AGP becomes exactly the same as Voodoo 3 PCI.

Where to get such a adapter, iam interested to run the Radeon Dual DVI 9600 in a GREX for the CyberstormPPC Card.
This would be a great Solution, i want a DVI Connector on my Amiga.

@radiosity:

- I do not know where. Perhaps a Google or an eBay search would do the trick?

- There are no drivers for that card and it wouldn't even work mechanically, as the AGP-to-PCI adapter is only good for cards which are of the same spec, e.g. Voodoo 3 AGP (1x AGP speed?) = Voodoo 3 PCI speed.

Í do have got one hell of a Voodoo5 5500 64 Mb pci, boxed, never used, brandnew ... but I really don´t feel like selling it because I have got a Mediator4000Di ready to be installed in my A4000 desktop ... unless, how much does a Prometheus cost ??? I have got 3 A4000´s that are still standard at the moment ... could use some expansion though... and I have to admit that I also have got a used Voodoo4 32 Mb ready to be used in an Amiga ...

New? NICE! Actually that may be overkill. I really only want a Voodoo 5 PCI for short term testing. Theoretically it should be same or slower than a Voodoo 4 4500 in an Amiga because only one GPU is active, the other one is unseen by the Amiga. i already have a Voodoo 4 4500. I just want to satisfy my curiosity.

$139 + shipping is the normal price. I also have low cost brand new RTL8029AS ethernet cards in stock and cheap used Voodoo 3 2000s.

Oh and I can offer desktop kits upon request:-)

Yes new, still wrapped in plastic. I bought it more than a year ago on brittisch Ebay but didn´t have a Mediator yet  :-)
If you only want it for testing then I prefer to keep it, no hard feelings  :-)
But I didn´t know that the Voodoo4 can run faster than the Voodoo5  :-?

Well theoretically they all run the same speed because the Zorro bandwidth is the limiting factor. The Voodoo 5 has 2 GPUs but since Amiga drivers are only written with Voodoo 3 in mind, the second GPU is completely unused. Voodoo 4 and 5 compatability is coincidental, that applies for all 3 PCI solutions.

So far I have tested voodoo 3 2000 and Voodoo 4 4500, and in my setup the Voodoo 4 only shows improvement at 800X600 and up, but it's a pretty big improvement.

-All-

Come one people! There must be at least a few Mediator owners out there :-? I want benchmarks:-)
