Title: Secure sites are slow
Post by: lurkist on July 21, 2004, 06:40:39 PM
I have noticed that secure sites (eg PayPal) download at much slower rates than ordinary sites.  Not just the download, but the system actually appears to slow as well.  I can find no prefs in Genesis or Ibrowse that deal with secure sites.  Am i missing something?  Also, will this relative difference be the same when i connect with broadband?

Cheers!

In IBrowse v2.3 goto Settings/Security/Ciphers.
The 3DES cipher is known to slow down https connections so
I have that one turned off, all the others are on.

Javascript is known to slow down loading of some sites, so
turn it off & see if that helps. In most cases, js is not needed.

Can't help with the BB question, still on dialup myself.

They aren't downloading more slowly - it's just taking CPU power for the decryption. That's why your system seems slow. Decryption is done by the AmiSSL libraries, so there isn't much you can do, except get a faster Amiga, I'm afraid, apart from what sundown suggested.
