Title: A1200 PPC, BVision, loads of software etc.... as one package. Cheap.
Post by: SteWhite on July 21, 2004, 12:10:58 PM
OK, a few things to call attention to before you start reading this, to save people time :-)

1. Buyer must collect, and have a car or something :-) I live in Radcliffe, Greater Manchester, UK. Sorry, but I am not going to post this thing. Far too much effort to pack it.

2. The system as a whole is somewhat unstable. More detail on this later in the post, but if you are a general user looking for a complete system, this probably isn't for you. It's more aimed at someone who will take it apart.

3. It's CHEAP! All this stuff goes for just £200 for the lot.

Now the actual list of hardware and software:

Hardware:
A1200 motherboard, revision 1.D.4 if I recall correctly. All timing fixes applied. Socketed with 3.1 ROMs.
Power Computing "Power Tower"
BlizzardPPC Accelerator. 060/50 with 240 MHz PPC and SCSI.
128 Mb EDO RAM
BlizzardVisionPPC Graphics Card

PowerFlyer Fast EIDE Interface
SilverSurfer fast serial port, clockport fitted.
PCMCIA 10 Mb network card (with right angle adapter). I forget the brand, it works with ResetFix from Aminet though.
2 Gb hard drive with Workbench on
32x IDE CDROM, slot loading type
Original floppy drive
External HD floppy drive
16x6x4 SCSI Yamaha CDRW
UMAX SCSI Scanner, the 6000SP if I recall correctly.
Iomega Zip 100, SCSI, about 3-4 Zip disks
All necessary SCSI leads
PC Mouse Adapter
PC Keyboard Adapter (built into tower). Can throw in a cheap PC keyboard if required.
Original A1200 case, now empty
Misc. Various leads, couple of CD32 pads, hard drive caddies, RGB to SCART, audio mixing, stuff like that.

Software:
Original A1200 Magic Pack, still with full box etc.. and all software/manuals

CD Applications
PFS 2 and PFS 3
OS 3.9
CyberGraphX 4
Personal Paint 7
Wordworth 7

CD Games
Foundation
Vulcanology compilation
T-Zer0
Bubble Heroes
Quake (PPC)
Payback
Napalm (PPC)
Myst
Nightlong (PPC)

Boxed applications
OS 3.5
ImageFX 4 and Powerstation PPC modules (box somewhat damaged)
Deluxe Paint 5
Network PC

Boxed games
Worms
Worms DC
Cannon Fodder
Sim City 2000
Colonization
Award Winners Platinum (Lemmings, Frontier, Civilization)
Fifa International
Civilization (ECS and AGA CD compilation)
XTreme Racing
Theme Park AGA
The Secret of Monkey Island
Settlers
Dune II
Ultimate Super Skidmarks

Everything in good condition unless otherwise noted. The front of the tower is a little yellowed with age.

There may be other bits of hardware or software I have forgotten.

Now, about the instability - when the system is first powered up, it often won't start booting, or will reset a short way into the boot sequence. It can take 10 attempts or more before it's up and running. Once running, the system is stable.

I'm not sure what is causing this instability, but I suspect the PSU in the tower - sometimes when the system is turned on the hard drives do not spin up. So whoever buys this will need to try taking out things or replacing them to determine what's wrong.

I haven't kept up with prices in the Amiga market, but I would think you could split this stuff up and re-sell it for more than I am asking, once you determine which part is unstable. I haven't the time to spend testing though.

I'd like payment in cash, simply because I don't want to risk someone giving me a cheque which then bounces. If desired I could set up the system to show it working at the time of collection.

That's about all I have to say  :-D Post here please if you are interested.

That's a nice speced machine you are going to sell there... All I can say is that it's a shame you won't ship it, but I see your point :-)

Thats definately interesting - I only have limited knowledge of poking around in hardware though so I'd prefer for the problem to be fixed b4 sale. However, if the system just requires a couple of resets b4 it will boot up - as long as it wouldn't corrupt the HD or anything like that then its not a biggie?

So is workbench 3.9 installed, and can u confirm all the games run well? Any pictures?

Looks like we have a buyer :)

Cyberus, as the first person (from the UK) to reply with interest. I'll post here if the deal doesn't go ahead with him for any reason.

Oh, and add something to the hardware list that I just remembered about:

Eyetech EZ-VGA Plus External Scandoubler & Flickerfixer

Hi Stephen, check your PM.

Hi punkpie, yeah I got your PM. Cyberus replied (and also sent a PM) first though...

Hmm. I am faced with a bit of a moral dilemma now - do I just sell to Cyberus for £200 as he replied first, or open this as a kind of auction the highest bidder?

Argh, I don't know what to do  :-?
I'm normally a very ethical person, but money is nice  :-P

At the moment I am thinking towards just selling to Cyberus for the £200, it wouldn't be very fair of me to do otherwise...

I'd appreciate people's opinion on this, especially those of Cyberus and punkpie, but anyone else feel free to chip in too :-)

It is a bit of a predicament.  I suggest a fight to the death. :-)

Actually, no.

I'm really after this system because I was one of the unfortunate who has appeared to have been cheated out of lots of money for a new PPC card from same guy in Germany.  You may want to look up threat.  It's probably one of the longest around here ;)

But, It's your decision in the end...

It's your choice really. I have the cash and can come and collect it asap. But at the end of the day, its yours decision :-)

I guess we can consider your communication with Cyberius as a "contract". As long as both sides meet the requirements of that contract, everything should be fine.

Only if Cyberius were to break that contract, like not paying the full amount you requested should you consider other people.

Just my £0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000002

Nice point bloodline.

It seems punkpie has been ripped off before sadly, and could really use the system, and is offering to pay more.

But on the other hand, I did agree to deal with Cyberus.

Curse my moral conscience, but I think I must deal with Cyberus for £200, unless it falls through for whatever reason, as you say.

Sorry punkpie - you are next in line though if anything goes wrong.

Damn! I need that accelerator, as mine is broke and i also got ripped off, as did punkpie. If both deals fall through for whatever reason, then i will offer you £200 for the PPC alone, maybe more. Please let me know if it does.

Regards,

-edit-

@punkpie

Speaking of which, have you heard anything at all. Everything has gone quiet to a dead halt. I don't know how to say this, but it seems to me that people are happy to let some twit get away with stealing our money - i know i'm certainly not.

I'm in it for the same reason you are, for the card.

I thought that might be the case :)

Before anyone else replied, I had a message from a guy in Canada offering £200 for just the PPC and BVision, if I could ship them out there. I certainly would have accepted the offer, but only if nobody in the UK came forward - shipping abroad would be much hassle in terms of payment alone, and I wouldn't dream of trying to send the whole lot.

I wanted to sell it as a bundle simply to get rid of it all at once, thought I realise people may only actually want it for the PPC :-)

Oh, and in case you are wondering, no, I am not insane - I know £200 is very cheap for this much gear. It certainly cost over ten times that when I bought it all new, perhaps over fifteen times  But I figured the price needed to reflect the fact that the buyer will have to find the cause of the instability, and I wanted to sell it quickly too.

And may I add, also got ripped off by the same guy, like the rest of the chaps. :-(

Ah, what I wouldn't give to be able to dish out justice with automatic weapons to whomever I saw fit...

I regards to English-Canadian international relations, I think you should sell the card to me. ;-)
Hey, we do have the same queen, you know. :-)

The same queen? You can take her mate :-)

All she does is whinge and cost us money. In fact, this whole country is going down the drain... how's Canada these days, shall I move there? :-D

How does this sound? I pay you the air-ticket to Canada, and you bring the tower with you.

I'm off to Canada in a few weeks, the air fare is quite steep this time of year...

But is my BlizzPPC worth a flight to Canada?

For you, a signed copy of Aros CD will do it. ;-)

@SteWhite

I would kill for the BPPC and BVision my self. Should have no problems pay you for p&p as well as the £250 or something the price is on right now.

Sorry, but they are already going to Cyberus - I've made my choice and I will be sticking by it. If the deal with him should fall through for any reason, then I might hold a bit of an auction, since many other people seem to want them. But for now they go to him.

@CU_AMiGA

No, I haven't heard anything.  And I'm dreading the worst.  But what can we do?  Letters have already gone to the German police and the ...er.. other place I cant think of the name right now.  I need that money.  There was a couple of other PPC in the mean time which I could have purchased if not for him. :pissed:

Since we have his address I think we should gang together and send some guys, and a crowbar, to duff him up. :-)

I wonder if someone still has his phone number?

@Everyone else

Looks like we'll have a bidding war if this falls through.  Good luck to you all. :-D

It's insanely humid. So far, the summer has been very coolish, and all of a sudden (yesterday) the weather became incredibly hot, and humid. Air conditioning is a must, where ever you go.

I hope it will be HOT and HUMID through out August :-)

I should be up in the Muskoka region, with all the lakes, so any excuse for a quick dip will be most welcome :-)
