Title: I'm disputing a parking ticket and they want my address...
Post by: Cyberus on July 20, 2004, 01:22:30 PM
Should I give it to them?
They say:

Quote
> All correspondence has to be addressed in writing to the registered
> keeper at the property the vehicle has been registered to.
>
> Whilst we are able to accept emails and fax communications as formal
> appeals we are unable to respond in the same manner.  As an audit
> requirement we must show when and to whom correspondence has been sent.
> Tracking of emails is not linked to the database that Parking Services
> use and is therefore not complying with the procedures laid down in the
> road traffic act 1991.

Now I am a real cynic, but my first instinct is to think they are trying to get my address out of me to make pursuing me easier. Surely they can get my address from the DVLA database anyway?
What do you guys think? Am I being too paranoid?
It just it seems as if I can't take this dispute any further without giving them my address....

Who issued the parking ticket?

I guess it was a traffic warden/parking attendant working for Maidstone Borough Council

I used to work for Islington Brough Council's Estate Parking Section, if you were making a parking appeal against a fine then you would have to provide full contact details, this was for two reasons. A simple check to see that you were who you say you were, and so that we could issue a refund if our investigation showed the fine/clamping/towing to be unfair or contrary to the operating regulations, a refund can only be issused with a full name an address.

Thanks for that bloodline. I thought I'd have to give them the address anyway, its just that I didn't want to get suckered in, if they would've had to go to a lot of hassle and maybe expense to get my address, and instead conned me into giving them it!

Cheers
