BoingBoss has famously declared that Doom II multiplayer is better than sex, and another poster here turned down a romantic rendezvous to watch Star Trek.
What is the most impressive thing that you've all turned down a night of steamy passion for?
-
Waking up?
-
Ummmm..
Nothing..
-
Can't tell you that yet, really..
maybe something more mentally pleasing
like singing and guitarplaying Reggae, on a warm summer evening in the middle of nature with a group of very close friends.
(but actually I do not think these things should be compared)
yeah, I know I'm a hippie
:-)

I once turned down sex to indulge in notcatchinganstd. ;-)
-
Once because I just didn't want to and didn't feel anything for her except friendship.
To be honest, it's close to 4 years since I've been intimate with another. Can't say I miss it.

 Yep, can relate to that one.....
-
...As in turning it down, not the catching the STD bit!
Thought I'd better clarify that one.
Phew!

Heh poor seer, and I thought I had it bad at 3 years, I feel your pain brother :-)
-
@Robert17.
No worries.. It's also a choice.. Want to be with someone I love.. To bad.. No love here :-?

TMI!
And I've been meaning to ask. What is the deal with this?:

I find it most unsettling!

How to 'turn down' - how you say - 'sex' ?? :-(
If some magic genie came to me and gave me a choice of either being locked in a room with Doom II multiplayer or a woman, I'd probably choose Doom II - as dull as I think that is.
-
Lol!
I've turned down sex for all kinds of things!
Overtime, fishing, TV, shopping, answering the phone , eating, sleep...
but it's not really "turning it down", it's more like postponing it untill later ;-)

That's very noble dude, you should be proud of yourself.

Not here, but there.

Maybe. It can be frustrating tho, in a way, sex is someting a male needs. And most (male) friends just don't seem to understand.
Let's just say meaningless sex has no meaning for me. It's far better if you love her, and she loves you back.
Anyway.. Thing are looking up on the love front.. Who knows, maybe somewhere in september I might be with the girl I want as my future better half.. But's to early to tell..

Not here, but there.
To lead a better life
I need my love to be here
Here, making each day of the year
Changing my life with a wave of her hand
Nobody can deny that there's something there
There, running my hands through her hair
Both of us thinking how good it can be
Someone is speaking, but she doesn't know he's there
I want her everywhere
And if she's beside me I know I need never care
But to love her is to need her
Everywhere, knowing that love is to share
Each one believing that love never dies
Watching her eyes and hoping I'm always there
I want her everywhere
And if she's beside me I know I need never care
But to love her is to need her
I will be there, and everywhere
Here, there and everywhere

I'm in a similar position to yourself I think. I am separated from the lady in question by circumstance, and about 2000km :-( . But that hopefully is all about to change. Ever since I met her, I can't even really think about another girl, not even a really pretty one :-o. She is my princess, I feel as if I'd rather spend a lifetime alone than be with anyone else; that I'd give everything I own to be with her again, just for another day - as it stands I might end up having to do that anyway :-o Of course all my friends tell me to not be an idiot! But if I am being foolish, only I can learn that lesson...
Don't ever think that you're wrong though, don't ever give up faith. If people want to base their entire life around their sex drive, then that's their problem. Its not as if I don't have hormones though. Jesu, sometimes they almost tear me apart!
But the way I see it, I'd rather wait to have a single glass of vintage Champagne than have three bottles of cheap wine in the meantime
If anyone understands my analogy...

But you have to taste the wines to know what's the vintage Champagne. Other than wine, ppl have no real label on them wich states what's inside.

@Cyberus
About the the girl (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=8525) it's about..
Yeah, I'm a fool.. After hearing absolutely nothing she appears again.. We talked a lot.. She needs time.. And I got plenty of that.. Sort of..

I have tasted a few wines already, although I was probably too drunk to notice how they tasted ;-)

Ummm to be honest that's just an emoticon from msn messenger as I can't be bothered to find a decent avatar lol however it does also reflect my mood sometimes... it means bleh :-)

I wish I could say that I had the willpower to hold out for someone I had strong feelings for, but it's easy to get cynical and give in to one's natural urges.
To live your life this way by choice is still a very noble act though and I wish you the very best of luck in your efforts.

and in the rush of drunkiness it went on and on until...
uuuhhh, I should stop about this I think
-
I can't say I've ever turned it down for another activity.. Generally I'll only turn it down when I'm not, or no longer, interested in having sex with a particular woman.
I like to break sex down into three catagories: Lovemaking, General Sex, and F{bleep}ing. A completely spiritual and intimate moment, regular sex but still caring about the other person, and throw down - we're only here cuz we need to get-off... Respectively.
Each has it's merit and purpose, and I believe each should be tried by everyone at least one time before even considering settling down.
But that's just me.

Nothing, really,
I've postponed it a few times.
But, then, I'm still young! :-)

Precisely what I would have said if I could have worded it like that :)
