Original Commodore or conversion? If you're considering a conversion I will be selling a bundle in the near future, converted ATX tower + Prometheus PCI.

Just make sure it has Buster 11 or at least that the buster is socketed and not rev9 surface mounted. Some Zorro cards won't work with rev9(or rev7) Buster.
and what is the best kind of zorro III vidcard
Voodoo 3 which requires a PCI solution like Prometheus.

although you are an exert in the field and your new 4000 atx boxes with pci sound exciting, a Voodoo card is NOT a Zorro III video card obviously.
To answer the question the best Zorro card is Picasso IV - also the original Cybervision 64 is very good as well.
And to be more accurate about the Buster issue - it is best to have Buster 11 but you can be OK with Buster 07,06 or even 09 its just that certain High end cards wont work at max speed sometimes or not work at all in the case of one or two of them.. but most systems will be fine with these.

If it is a geniune 4000T, it will already have SCSI.
The minimum cpu(at least for the Amiga Tech version)
is an 040, but you will limited to 16MB of Fast Ram,
since the motherboard simm slots are the only way of
adding ram to a stock 4000T. I don't believe the
motherboard revisions for the 4000T are an issue. As far
as ZIII video, the Picasso IV is the best way to go
since it has the scan doubler/flicker fixer built in.

Depends on the wording I guess. I read it as meaning what was the fastest video card, using Zorro II speed(not ZII). But if the question was specifically a zorro II card (the card itself) then yes either CV64(non3D) or Picasso4 would be the best option. The Prometheus *IS* a Zorro III soultion though, it does not replace the daughterboard.
or not work at all in the case of one or two of them.
Yeah that was my point. Some simply do not work, and if the Buster 7/9 is surface mounted, you are out of luck. Luckily there are very few cards where this is a problem.

I have an A4000T (Amiga Technologies model), however housed in a PC AT full tower case, as I originally only bought the motherboard and audio/serial/mouse/video port cards only.
Everything is in excellent condition, especially the motherboard. My plan is to either sell it or keep it, and one day I may find a NOS original case for it, and put it in it's "natural surroundings". :-) The supplies of NOS A4000T cases have dried up, so for now I'm forced to use it in a PC case, however AT form factor of A4000T motherboard conveniently makes it perfectly fit. The look of the whole setup is completely hack-free. :-)
Make an offer if interested. :-)

thanx I am going to be running a VT4000 in it so I would like to explore the best vid card Zorro or PCI
it dosent matter if it is a conversion or not the more I can rig it the better :-)
let me know when U are getting ready to sell yours I should be ready to buy in a month or so.
oh what PPC card is the best and will it speed up the VT
or at least run in 68k emulation at a faster speed?
oh and orlando seems hotter ... well at least it did the last 3 or 4 days at work...... LOL

give me a starting price...
you have my attention!! :-)

Diablo
If you are turning it into a vT 4000 box you really dont need a graphics card as the toaster only runs on native NTSC modes...

To be technically acurate imho Prometheus/Voodoo is NOT a Zorro 3 solution - its a PCI solution (and yes of course it uses Zorro bus but that wasnt his question)
-
yes you are right but I also plan on using a NIC to add it to my network and go online to get images and such.
i'd like to have a better workbench interface.
anyways i will be doing my renders on my AMD XP 2500+ and sending the .avi over the network to the amiga for prosessing.

@DIABLO_NEGRO:
What sort of power do you require?
It can be a vanilla config, such as:
CPU: A3640 (040@25Mhz)
Storage: 4.5GB Fast SCSI-2 hard drive / 12X CD drive
RAM: 16MB on motherboard (4 x 4MB SIMMs)
Or, it can be significantly more powerful by adding a Cyberstorm MK2 040@40Mhz with 128MB ram, or a Cyberstorm PPC 060@50Mhz/200Mhz with 128MB ram, and either a Cybervision 64 Z3 GFX card, or a Cybervision PPC to go along with the Cyberstorm PPC accelerator.
Some of the stuff mentioned is still on its way to me, such as the accelerators and the Z3 video card, so I need to do testing before I ship anything out.
Everything that goes out will be cleaned and tested as best as possible.
All fans will be instantly replaced with new exact replacements (e.g. PPC heatsink fan and any 040 fan).
Are you familiar with current Amiga hardware pricings? I have a feeling that you will be turned off if I make a request first. :-)
-
I know thet the hardware is not cheap. That is not a problem. the only thing is that i might not be able to get a bunch at a time :-)
I need the A4000T first so I can sell my A2000
