Title: Subway USB Availability?
Post by: adolescent on July 11, 2004, 08:33:19 AM
Can someone point me in the direction of a dealer that has the Subway USB controller in stock?  I've tried Vesalia and KDH but they say they don't know if/when they'll be restocked.

If Vesalia and KDH don`t have any then I guess you are out of luck. There is clear demand for the Subway but apperently not enough to justify another production run at the momentan on top the creator Michael Böhmer is currently busy with his studies I belive.

Well. Maybe I should give some comments on this:

Yes, I am quite busy at university at the moment.
Anyhow, I could start production as soon as I see a clear demand for boards. Unfortunately the producer of the chip (Transdimension) is pushing his new chipset (the one used on ALGOR) and has raised prices for the former one (used on SUBWAY and HIGHWAY). This makes it harder to buy a bunch of chips, get a small number of boards produced and throw away the rest of the chips.

Moreover, the clockport market has been disturbed quite a lot with the announcement of UltraBUS over 1 and a half year before - without any UltraBUS being available up to now. As nobody knows about the status of this project (last news update on UltraBUS pages older than one year) it adds additional risk to production, as nobody knows what happens if I start a new production run and announce it.

Shortly said: if enough people (about 50) give me a clear (and I mean: a trustworth) sign of interest in acquiring a SUBWAY card, the problem of availability will be solved soon.

I will make an official announcement for this issue the next days on the news pages. You know that E3B never has used presubscription or anything like this to sell things which are not produced yet, and so we will do this time; that's why I said trustworth interest. I think paying before production is not what many Amigians still trust.

Michael

P.S.: I guess we will see some comments from Mr. Rat aka Tjaoz aka ElBugs here on this message... treat them with the necessary attitude :-)

Good idea. But I have to disappoint you: my stock of SUBWAYs is empty (with exception of some for warranty issues and replacements).

See my other answer on this thread.

Hmmm in any case that there is not a High enough demand...........you can simply create more demand.
How You ask?

Inform every A600 owner that they can use the Subway!  Most of them don't know this.............I sure as heck didnt and was massivly surprised!

INDIVIDUAL COMPUTERS sells an adaptor that plugs onto the Gayle chip of the A600 and gives it a A1200 compatible clockport. :-)

Attention ALL Amiga 600 owners!  Upgrade your A600's!!!

No accelerator is needed for the clockport alone.

Check out this A600 upgrade page: check it thoroughly. Lots of hidden info.

Oh......and get a Subway! USB on your A600!

@leirbag28

It's correct that for the clockport alone the A600 doesn't need anything extra but for the USB it needs a 020 CPU or better so this only qualify expanded A600's. As A600 CPU boards are expencive and hard to come by it's suggested that one purchase such a thing before thinking of expanding it with the SubwayUSB.

In the end I doubt there's a significant market for USB on A600.

@Brian

Its still worth Buying a clockport adaptor because you can use the SilverSurfer without any upgrades to your CPU according to them.

Also Apollo 630 boards are about to be produced again. They are just waiting for enough buyers..once thats done, there will be a flock of A600 owners who want to add USB.

Most A600 owners who have kept their A600's, are A600 freaks such as me......and they love their A600's.So they will do anything to upgrade it.

I know I went insane when I discovered this little clockport!

Now in the process of turning my A600 into a portable WorkStation with 2 LCD screens fitrted right onto the A600.

pictures coming within the next 6 months hopefully :-)
