Still Can't Find amigaworld anybody know what is happening over there?
-
The server is working fine. You must have a DNS problem or so.
-
Its fine from here. :)
http://www.amigaworld.net/
-
Not with freeserve by any chance are you? I couldn't get on there for some time recently due to DNS problems...
-
no, im with ntl a broardband connection. well if its fine for everybody else it must be a dns problem. thanks for the replies.
-
It isnt fine for me either,
The site loads to a blank white page.
I have NOT fiddled with any settings over here either, and its the same on each browser.
-
If it's a DNS problem then you could always try 69.64.33.58 (http://69.64.33.58) 8-)
-
Well, it showed up fine from ole' crapola Comcast, so I doubt there's anything seriously wrong with it. Which is good news. Their system does a good job of serving it's niche. :-)
(Personally, I kind of wish I hadn't just gone there, though. Curious as ever, I decided to read through a few of the top threads on their homepage. My brain nearly imploded.)
[edit] It's a nice site.... Just not for me. :-)
-
After using the site for 2 years, I have NEVER had this problem before.

That also does not work, and loads merely a blank white page.

@Ilwrath
Thats fine, but you shouldn't judge a whole site by a couple of threads. There are a lot of threads there that I don't think are interesting, or just in the realms of cloud cuckoo land, but I just don't read those threads.
Just like Amiga.org there are a lot of helpful people there, and a nice atmosphere.
I went of AOrg for a while, but really, I realised it was just two or three people, not the site. I think AW.net, Amiga.org, ANN* and Morphzone are all a credit to our Amiga & clone community.
(*the site and Christian Kemp/Christophe Decanni's work on it, not most of the comments ;-)

@xeron -
Yeah, I think I was probably already editing my comment when you posted this. It was a failed joke, and I didn't mean to deride ANY Amiga site. Just adding a little humor that didn't work -- nothing new for me. ;-)
Just to be taken as that I find A.o and ann.lu to be more my speed. Despite that, I appreciate anyone who follows their heart to try to support Amiga. :-)

Still won't load..
-
wont load for me eather
-
works fine for me.

ns2.nameserverservice.com internet address = 217.172.191.8
try going directly to the ip instead, and see if that works, if it does, it's probably DNS problem.

still cant find amigaworld i dont know anything about DNS
-
You may need to contact your ISP..
Are you using an Amiga, Linux or Windows system ? Give us a bit more info about your system.. Also, if you have a router, then give some info about that as well.
-
Im on windows xp with an ntl broadband canection through a ethernet broadband router with one other pc connected i dont have any problems accessing any other sites just amigaworld i just get a blank screen.
-
Well, we can rule out ISP problems I think for now.
Have you tried cleaning the cache/temp internet sites ? Sounds to simple to try, but has worked before to solve these kind of problems.
Also, a bit related, if you go to start -> run and type CMD you get a nice console window.
Make sure you're in the root (C:\) and type
del /s *.tmp
This will delete all files in all directories ending with tmp that aren't in use (quit as many programs as possible when doing this). (Use at your own risk, some file sharing programs and programs like DAP use .tmp files as well)
If the above doesn't work type the following in the same console box;
ping www.amigaworld.net
You should get a reply from 69.64.33.58.
Let us know what happens.
-
Well I got a reply;
Pinging www.amigaworld.net [69.64.33.58]

Reply from 69.64.33.58: bytes=32 time=118ms TTL=51

Well, it's not a DNS problem then.
Did you try the other suggestion ?
You mentioned a second PC on the same router ? Does it have the same problem ?
Can you get to http://amigaworld.net/modules/news/ (http://amigaworld.net/modules/news/) ?

Exactly the same here
-
Cant get to http://amigaworld.net/modules/news/ just get a blank page.
not yet, thing is, this is a fresh windows xp install today, but still the same amigaworld problem as yesterday.
well i cant access the other pc as its in my flatmates room and he's gone to bed.
hey seer thanks for trying to help me out.
-
Exactly the same here
You're on ntl broadband as well ?
-
hey seer thanks for trying to help me out.
No probs.. But if HopperJF has the exact same problem and is using the same ISP then it's a good bet the problem is with your ISP, tho Í can't think of a reason (except if you connetct through a proxy/ISA server but I doubt that).
Try contacting the servicedesk of your ISP, explain the problem and tell them the results of the ping command. I suggest emailing them and not calling them, that seems to work better with most servicedesk..
-
OK Ill try that tomorow, and thanks again for your replies.
-
BTW I'm on NTL boradband (600K), and havn't had a problem at all.
-
If you're using xp try using mozilla.
You really shouldn't be using IE with windows unless you like to live dangerously!
If you get a reply from that ping and mozilla doesn't work then your ISP must be allowing ICMP but disallowing HTTP from amigaworlds IP. ..... for some strange reason.
