Title: Questions regarding the installation of a hard drive
Post by: MontrealCL on July 07, 2004, 11:17:59 PM
There's no doubt about it!  My Amiga 2000 needs a HARD DRIVE!!!

I have the following options:

1. AMIGA RAPIDFIRE FAST SCSI 2 CONTROLLER BOARD with 8 megs of RAM

2. Individual Computer Buddha IDE Controller for Amiga

3. Commdore A2091 CARD with 1 meg of RAM

Which option should I go for?

The DKB Rapidfire is far and away the best of the lot, if you have SCSI drives.  It's quite a bit newer than the A2091 and DKB used good build quality back in the day.  (They were always one of the companies I considered "upper-tier" on most items)

The A2091 needs ROM updates, and more RAM to be very useful.

The Buddha IDE controller is probably ok, but with no RAM options, you'll want more RAM for your system somewhere.  Of course, this isn't a problem if you already have an accelerator with RAM.  It also uses cheaper IDE drives, if you have no SCSI drives to use.
