See below for my version of an A1200 internal CD-ROM Mod:

That's neat. After I saw the picture you posted in the gallery, I was wondering how it actually looked from the rear panel. Good job!

Looks great... I personaly don't like the drive going out the back but thats partly because I just don't have that kind of space on my desk.

I'm also looking at doing this project but when I got the $ I'll go for the drive out the side instead. As one can see in other projects like that the CDRom will not fit entierly with the shape of the A1200 but I was thinking of using a slotin drive and that should make it less visible and also give it the right feeling of belonging in the unit (disks going in at the right, CD's at the left and no trays coming in or out at either end).

I will probably just use a custom 2.5"->2.5"->3-5" IDE cable so I don't have to use an IDE splitter or other IDE hardware.

Excellent work Bob. :-o It looks factory from the back.  I might just have to try this one.  Only problem is I have a 4xEIDE'99 (a vertical IDE adapter).  If the drives are cheap enough I'll give it a shot anyway.

@Brian

MacResQ has slot load (from Powerbook G4) DVD/CD-ROM drives slot load drives  for $59.99, and DVD/CD-RW for $149.99. Anyone know if these are standard interface or proprietary?

Very slick.  Looks great.  Nice layout inside.  Still allows good access to everything...  I'm impressed.  I may have to do soemthing similar with my A1200.   :-)

If you look at the link on that page, where the guy got the idea from, it shows a drive coming out the left side of the Amiga. Maybe this is a better way to do it for you.

@BobW

Dude, Superb Job!..I am seriously Dying to do the same thing, except on My A600! coming out the side........but coming out the bacck maybe a better option especially for the A600..........because the A1200, is not only longer than the A600.........its actually wider including the space for the floppy....to the eye they look the same but side by side you see the difference..the PCMCIA port has way more clearance on the A1200.....so its going to be difficult to do it.

But I am considering a slotIn drive like one guy mentioned here.  The only thing is that I suck at cutting plastic........maybe I am using the wrong tools?

Also for me, this absolutely has to be a 32x DVD-RW drive, slot loading and slimmer than slimline.

 I will take pics if I do this.

@Brian

I really like the drive coming out of the left side as well.  I just wish the case was a little deeper so the would fit.

@adolescent

I bought a 4xEIDE'99 not realizing that it stood straight up.  It sits right in the way of the CD-Rom.  One solution I was considering was to make a short home made extension cable to move the adapter out of the way.

@leirbag28

Cutting plastic just takes a little practice.  I use a Dremel to cut the bulk of the plastic out.  Using a Dremel is like using a chain saw to remove the paint on your car.  To get the clean look I spend a looong time finishing it with a flat file.

Very well done, I could not see how it would fit and work, until I seen it myself.
A nice piece of work I must say  :-P  :-P
