Clicking here (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4598&item=5106538803&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW) will take you to an auction with a prototype for the A4000 which was called A3400.
It's not a one of a kind machine, but it's pretty damned close. It's for real - I've seen it IRL myself actually :-)
-
That's pretty cool, thanks for the heads up:-) I'm bidding on it, though I doub't I'll be the high bidder. We'll see.
-
That's cool!
:-o
-
:-o Phoowaar, that's one sexy machine :-D
Good luck red :-)
-
redumola:
yea, you're losing now. LOL (that'd be me winning, currently.) how cool it would be to win, which I doubt..should go pretty high.
-
I knew I'd be outbid, I really can't afford to bid high atm. Good luck!
-
A very cool unit, indeed.
-
That's not an A3000+ is it?
-
No, it's not an A3000+. It's functionally very close to an A4000. In fact it even runs AGA demos and games etc. :)
-
I don't think it is. The 3000+ had an AT&T DSP, which
I believe this doesn't (At least I don't see it on the
3400).

This IS the beta version of the A4000 that was sent out in a VERY limited quantity to ONLY key developers like Scala! id say tops 10 or so were made! and its REAL i know as i have one (and will be selling it).

It irks me when someone tries to charge for Paypal to cover fees.. against Ebay policy.. I'll make sure I inform 'em of that. :pissed:
-
That's against ebay policy? Oops, I always put that in when I auction stuff on which I only expect a very small price (you know like when EBay fees+Paypal fees>actual price :-)).
-
It's not against the rules. Why would it be? You buy, you pay. What's the problem? You choose the payment method, and if you choose Paypal, you should be happy to pay for the convenience. Not everyone charges the Paypal fees to the buyer, but they could if they wanted to.
-
It's a fairly recent amendment to the T&C, IIRC. It's in eBay's interests, don't forget, to forbid Paypal charges.
As for that Miggy... Wow! :-)
-
weirdami: you must not know too much about ebay. It is AGAINST their policy..
I've already reported the post to Ebay.
Here's a link for reading..

It is AGAINST their policy..
It is most certainly against their policy.
-
Against its policy it may be, and perhaps quite rightly so. But as anyone who sells on eBay will know, the PayPal charges can be quite high for cheaper items, especially when combined with listing fees etc.
Nevermind, I shan't be offering my buyers the opportunity to use PayPal from now on. I think eBay and PayPal are shooting themselves in the foot. Silly {bleep}s.
Since eBay acquired PayPal, can't they do anything about the fees? Oh no, I forgot, they're money-grabbing {bleep}s.

Oh, that's nice to know. I've been shopping on ebay a couple of hundred times and I'd say I've had to pay a Paypal fee in 90% of the cases. Is this a new change to the user agreement or has it always been in there?
-
I have to say that the moment I see that the seller charges for paypal, they either get a cheque or I don't bid if there is no other choice.
PayPal is designed to charge the seller, not the buyer, for their services.
-

While it would be nice, don't hold your breathe. PayPal is a convience, and the seller has to pay for the convience.
The fees are no different than accepting a credit card via a merchant account, the the fee amounts are almost identical to the percentage a merchant account deducts. In the US it is illegal for companies to charge a surcharge for buyers using credit cards. AFAIK PayPal isn't regulated yet, but it will be eventually and this law will prbably apply to it also.
I have some major issues with PayPal, but the fees are just the cost of doing business.
-
I agree if the seller is wanting to accept paypal the fee should be in him. I dont accept paypal any longer since they locked my account and took all the money in it after I was the victum of a scamm. The ruled that since I sent to a gift address and not the confirmed address I was in the wrong. Funny how they offer that service and screw you for using it if things go wrong!!
That A4000 is real neat. I've seen a few, but never tried o get one. I bought an A3000+ complete a couple years ago that has the same type of material that motherboard is made from. I would say its very real.
-
I dont like Paypal charges either, but I accept them because of the convenience it provides. I just dont think its cool to do that to the buyer.
Acill: what I did to avoid a issue like that was to create a seperate bank account strictly for Paypal money, as soon as someone buys something I transfer the cash to my paypal account...once its there, I move it into my personal account.. so my paypal bank account account only has maybe $1-$10 max in it, just enough to keep it open. :) So if Paypal goes into my account to pull money out, there will be none.. so far I have not had *any* problems with scams or anything.
-
Looks like the bidder didnt like me telling them it was illegal... so they used my name on there (Alex Bartonek) to let all ebayers know its my fault Paypal is not allowed. LOL!
Oh well, not like I care. I dont pass off any extra BS charges to my winning bidders.
-
Well, the way I see it PayPal is a good thing to use to pay for goods bought on eBay, and I haven't got any problems with the fees that are posted on the various auction sites.
It make life a bit easier when paying, and the advantages as I see it is as follows:
1. Fast payment
2. Secure payment
3. No worries about checks going to the wrong person, or being lost in the mail.
4. No need to pay the bank the expensive fees for making international payments.
Yesterday I had to pay 25 EURO for making a bank transfer to Germany for a 200 EURO item. Had the seller had PayPal and charged the "normal" fee on PayPal transfers then I should have paid 210 EURO instead. Furthermore the person wouldn't have to wait for 5 days in order to get the money.
Therefore I don't mind paying the PayPal fees stated on the auction sites, because if eBay decides to take a look on this "problem" the outcome would be that the seller has to answer 100s of emails answering the same question, and in the end adding the fees as "shipping costs".
At least that's my point of view on this subject.
EDIT
Oh, and to the eBay auction shown it's a cool item. I have also seen the motherboard in real life, and looks very good indeed. By mistake I have made a new thread about this item, so I guess it should just be ignored or removed by moderator :-)
-
In the spirit of WYSIWYG, I have thus far refused to even charge for postage. :-)
(Or maybe that's just my marketing angle, ha ha.)
-
Well it finished at an impressive (I think anyway) $809.99.
(About £436)
Total of 23 bids, 3190 hits
Not bad at all since I remember the Amiga Nyx going up on auction and getting that much (reserve not met), maybe its time for dave to relist it, hint ;)
-
So if Paypal goes into my account to pull money out, there will be none.. so far I have not had *any* problems with scams or anything.
Heh, I see you've never experienced a negative balance on your bank account?-)
They will get their money, even if there's "nothing" in the account.
-
Jope: LOL.. I wouldnt say that I havent experienced a negative balance. I just keep almost nothing in there just in case. If Paypal were to take $200 from my acct and I only had $10 or $20, my bank would cancel that withdrawl and they would get nothing. It hasnt come down to that though..I havent been burned *yet*.
-

Tell me about it - lost the bugger by a measly $10 !!!
:-(

Ah yes, if only you stubborn Danes had joined the EMU :-D. I love it, transferring money to Germany etc. costs me exactly 0,0 EUR and it gets there in 2 or 3 days tops. 8-)

Yeah, but then they turn the debt over to a credit collections agency. So you can either pay up the difference, or have your credit history permanently fux0rd. With the costs of getting a lawyer to sort out your credit history, it's cheaper to pay up. F***kin' criminals, PayPal are.
-
Now you guys see why I do not accept PayPal, it sucks!
I only accept CASH or a POSTAL money order, from a US or Canadain Post Office, as payment for the items that I sell on eBay. Buyers outside the USA have to mail CASH. I have never had a problem with this and have always gotten paid. :-D
-
Hi Oli_hd,
Well it finished at an impressive (I think anyway) $809.99.
I would never pay that much for an ugly piece of crap that does not even come with a top. I guess it just shows how stupid some people are.
Now if it was the very first Amiga 1000 computer ever made, still mint in a mint box, then yes, I might have paid $800 to $2000 for it.
-

Not really. I think it probably would have been a smart investment. Early Apple prototypes can now sell in the range of $5,000-$10,000. There's no reason to think that in another decade that prototype wouldn't bring a similiar figure. 5-10x return on investment, plus posession of a historically significant Amiga artifact seems pretty smart to me.
