orange Posts:2796 | December 01, 2008, 09:12:39 AM I think that's 95% as fast as motherboard RAM. memory on accelerator is much faster supposedly |
stopthegop Posts:831 ![]() | November 11, 2007, 03:53:31 AM supposedly 95% as fast as from the CPU Fast slot. |

Hodgkinson Posts:1080 | August 25, 2006, 11:22:17 AM Those chips are called "globtops" as the name implies. The chips are actually made as part of the board/bonded to the board, and then the glue type stuff is placed over the top in order to protect the silicon wafer underneath. To replace the IC you have to replace the board, in other words. Note how the actual silicon wafer inside a IC package is actually MANY times smaller than the package itself! |
alexh Posts:3644 | January 23, 2006, 12:35:50 PM It's not that they are glued to the board, the black glue ontop of the chip is to hide the chip details. Usually to hide a lower speed rating, a batch number that were rejects, or to hide the RAM manufacturer. |
shIva Posts:751 ![]() | November 10, 2004, 09:37:29 AM They ARE melted toffees :-D I bought them some years ago, these chips are not soldered onto the pcb, but glued somehow. if you open a cheap pocket calculator, you´ll probably find similar "chips". |
