Description: This SIMM adds a 2.5" 44pin IDE interface and two flash chips
It is found as standard in all the prototypes but the IDE port is always unpopulated.

probably U1 would have been some PAL for controlling IDE, I don't think it would work when just adding the header.

Or perhaps by using standard size stuff they could save money (off the shelf simm sockets, standard size simm pcb)? Just imagine if they had used standard stuff on other areas, like power-supplies (except the A4000T that is standard PC AT). Could have save some cash in the old days...
