I have a Multisync 3D. The monitor is used and worn out. When I turn it on, it makes a click. It displays a greyish background, before I power on my Amiga. I don't think that looks normal. Does anyone know why that is happening?

 The flyback is busted! Swap it for a new unit.

The company I worked for swore up and down it was just a standard VGA monitor and I should pitch it, as we weren't allocating anything under 17" monitors, anymore. Who was I to argue? I pitched it... into the back seat of my car.

@bloodmoney

The NEC 4ds, as far as I know, is not capable of the 15khz Amiga modes.  If you have documentation on the monitor, you can check, though.  What you need to find is the horizontal scanrate.  If it's 15-something khz, it will support native Amiga NTSC/PAL.  If it's only 30-something khz, it can only work with the A3000 or a scandoubler.

There are a couple models other than the NEC 3D that ARE capable of the 15khz modes, though.  I have an NEC 1, which can do them, as well.  I'll send the pictures here and to BBoAH later, when I get a chance to get some better shots.

I own a NEC 4FGe which I use on a CV3D. This beauty won't work on my 1200 without a scandoubler. Guess a A500 is out of the question without one too. ???

The NEC Multisync 3D / 3Ds is really difficult to find anywhere, I tried on eBay, and on Google, with no luck. So I paid $145 for a Scan Magic Scan Doubler with Flicker Fixer. :-P

So THAT's what this monitor looks like! I've always wondered :-)

You should submit this to the BBoAHW. They don't have a picture of this monitor as of now.

I saved this one from a dumpster fate back several years ago.  The company I worked for swore up and down it was just a standard VGA monitor and I should pitch it, as we weren't allocating anything under 17" monitors, anymore.  Who was I to argue?  I pitched it... into the back seat of my car.  It has served faithfully as an Amiga 3000 monitor, as well as for my A1200 for PAL games, and it gets carted to my server, (I usually don't keep a monitor hooked to it) if something goes horribly wrong, and I need a local display.
Very rugged and versatile.

I had one of these for years!. I bought it 2nd hand for my new A1200 (and I bought that just after they were released here). It'd have to be one of the most resilient pieces of hardware I've abused. I used it on the A1200 until 2000, and then on a powermac 8100 with a home made adaptor, and with a bit of messing about inside managed to get it displaying 1024x768 quite well.

It only died a year ago. Occasionally when it turned on it would click-click-click with random scanlines all over until it was warm. Eventually that clicking just dragged on longer and longer until it never came good. Pity :)
