Description: Following on from Danamania's superb photo of two gold plated 040s, I had a go at rendering the same thing in LightWave. There were questions raised as to whether Dana's picture is a render or a photograph. This may or may not prove anything, put I doubt that any Amiga system/software could pull off such a finely honed shot. Whatever, this is my best attaempt so far. As I already mentioned to Dana, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery! The shadows in my pic were enhanced a little in Photogenics, but I'm not an expert with it so it's not exactly right. The other stuff you mention is all part of the LightWave surfacing technique, which took hours to get anywhere near. I could spend another five days on it to get it closer, but it's the Law of Diminishing Returns. I attempted this project to demonstrate that rendering a picture like Dana's is a major task. And that the Amiga is probably not capable of producing a render of its subtlety. It's very difficult, I've been at it since the photo first appeared! Anyway, I'm not gonna spend much more time on it, other than create a 'Military Spec' version. Now that might open another can of worms! Cheers, JaX |
xeron Posts:2533 | October 23, 2003, 10:27:12 PM Wow! Thats really good. The only things I can see different from the actual photos is that the plastic case of the 68040 is slightly shinier, the shadows are not quite as strong, and the gold centre doesn't have the same smearing (not sure thats the right way to describe it). Other than that, it looks like another photo of the same two chips! |
