I'm trying to render my own version of Dana's superb photo using LightWave, just to prove the Amiga is good, but not that good! Creating the gold pins as you describe is very useful, thanks. @danamania Superb photo! Blimey, is it just a coffee table?...! The lighting is causing me a few problems in LightWave, but I'll stick with it and upload my rendered version of your picture in the next few days. Hope you don't mind me doing this experiment. As they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery! Many thanks for the inspiration! JaX |

Ilwrath Posts:2199 | October 22, 2003, 04:11:44 AM Quote I thought the 'gold plating' on the pin solder rings suggested a render, but maybe this is how gold plating is applied, after soldering (?). Does anybody know about this? I have an '040 (old EC I removed) sitting here, and I can tell you that's exactly how the chip looks. I'm not sure those rings are actually solder, at all. It almost looks like the pins were pushed through a molten gold, or the gold was dropped around the pins, instead of solder. I can snap an unedited digital pic, if you'd like... |

Check this photo manipulation she done for a friend: http://www.danamania.com/graphics/pmellie.html. More at: http://www.danamania.com (the Vhacks are interesting) |

iamaboringperson Posts:5744 ![]() | October 21, 2003, 08:09:36 AM That looks good! :-D Now, don't call me stupid. Is that a photo, or computer generated? |
JaXanim Posts:1120 ![]() | October 21, 2003, 01:59:18 AM Someone on the lists said it looks like a render. I thought so too, but it's really toooo good. I thought the 'gold plating' on the pin solder rings suggested a render, but maybe this is how gold plating is applied, after soldering (?). Does anybody know about this? Whatever, this is either a really nice photo, or a very professional render. Certainly, it's beyond the Amiga. Maya perhaps? Anyway, I reckon it's a damn good photo of real life 040's. Notice that some of the pins are out of line. OK, it could be done in LightWave, etc, but if so, there's a real lot of work here. So, it's a great photo IMO. In fact I'm gonna try rendering this in LW5 to prove it!! Cheers, JaX |
