keropi Posts:2466 | March 21, 2007, 01:36:22 PM on my g-rex4000D setup, I use a small IDE Lite-On 52x CDR with an Acard7720UW converter... also I use a laptop 40GB 2,5" IDE drive again with another acard... I have freed up enough space with those, and use the expansion port to mount a "multimedia and design" monitor switch. If you are interested PM me, so I can give you the cgx4 patch to control the switch, so it becomes FULLY automatic.... |
BuzzBrain Posts:133 ![]() | March 20, 2007, 03:03:26 PM Hi. I have tested this system with a Watt meter, to measure the power consumption. Only tested the system without montor. This is just a test, not a research ![]() Idle, this system use 119W Load (with disk use) 124W The A4000D Tower I have posted: http://www.amiga.org/gallery/index.php?n=1965=12 use: Idle, this system use 109W Load (with disk use) 116W The load test is only sysspeed disk test on both amiga's. I think it will be more with more load. Is just at simple test. I have a escom A4000T with mediator and voodoo 5500 and stuff. Soon gona test it, to compare. BuzzBrain |
x56h34 Posts:2921 | March 20, 2007, 02:42:11 PM @PaSha: That's exactly the reason why I didn't install an internal optical drive in my A4000D-Grex setup. I connect it externally (through an external SCSI connector, of course) in very rare occasions when it's needed. I also think that relieving your A4000D PSU of extra load is also a smart thing to do as CSPPC + Grex + PCI cards already eat a lot of internal power on their own, so not having an additional device inside is good. ;-) |
PaSha Posts:537 ![]() | March 19, 2007, 03:04:34 PM Why is there no CD-ROM drive? As many A4000 owners know, there is just barely enough space for a CD-ROM drive in there... I chose to have some extra space for airflow instead of a rarely used CD-ROM drive. On one of the other pictures you can see that there's an external SCSI connector, providing the means to hook up an external SCSI CD-ROM drive when necessary. |
Colani1200 Posts:707 | March 19, 2007, 10:39:49 AM Beautiful system. But... no CD-ROM/burner? |
PaSha Posts:537 ![]() | March 18, 2007, 05:09:46 PM :-) The harddrive is 'only' a 7200 rpm Quantum Atlas IV (less heat & noise). Unless you've swapped it, that is. The main purpose of the LCD display tingy, is to slow the fans down in order to reduce the noise, but still maintain safe temperatures on the inside. Anyway, cheers for posting these pictures. I never got around to doing it myself. :pint: |

But I think is worth it, As for me this Amiga has more soul then a "modern PC" "da9000 Posted 2007/3/17 10:31 Updated 2007/3/17 Re: My new A4000D Nice rig! What does the LCD show?" The LCD shows the temp on PPC604 cpu, 68060 cpu and inside cabin. And give me data about the rpm on both cpu fan's and a fan inside cabin. It spin's up the fans if the temp increase. It's even have a alarm. If temp raise to high, or the fan's stop. It nice, as I have a 18GB 10 000rpm SCSI disk inside too who get hot. I think this fan control unit give me more hours with happy computing as it hold my tight a4000D case cooled. And as it have a mission. It's better to have it there, even if it's crash a bit with the "orginal Amiga look" Thanks for all comments ![]() BuzzBrain |

keropi Posts:2466 | March 16, 2007, 07:02:52 PM now all it needs is an Arxon Scandoubler, a multimedia&design monitor switch and the patches to make it automatic. ah, and get rid of that monitoring thingie, plug a subway to the kickflash and put in the 3,5" bay a usb multimedia card reader... then our 4000D's would be like sisters! |
McVenco Posts:1428 | March 16, 2007, 06:02:25 PM "Sorry for bad pic. Done with my mobile phone." You call that bad? Heck, my camera does worse than that  But a very lovely machine you've got there, although that little blue screen isn't entirely up to my taste... |
dandelion Posts:246 ![]() | March 16, 2007, 05:29:54 PM The nicest example of an A4000D i've ever seen, ever. Beautiful. I'm going to keep all the pictures as an example of just how perfect an A4000 can become with careful, considerate modding. |
