adz Posts:2961 ![]() | August 15, 2008, 03:07:50 AM I've seen enough Huntsman spiders in my time and I'm sure this is one, looks an awful lot like this to me. |
Fingers Posts:378 ![]() | May 25, 2008, 09:49:39 AM That is most certainly not a Huntsman. Looks like some variety of Trapdoor...wonder what she (it's a female whatever species it is) was doing on your patio? Hmmm :-? PZ. |

adz Posts:2961 ![]() | January 30, 2007, 08:21:57 AM @moto I'm actually quite disapointed with this shot, the shadows are way too harsh and a lot of detail was lost in the crop, oh how I wish I had a real macro lens. In answer to your question, it had a 60-70mm leg span. @Karlos Edit...I actually read what you wrote  Sorry, X-rays mantis wouldn't stand a chance :-P |
Karlos Posts:16879 | January 28, 2007, 11:49:23 AM So, who'd win in an outright contest between this and X-Rays praying mantis? Based on the "apparent" size here, that is, not their actual size ;-) |
motorollin Posts:8669 | January 26, 2007, 02:21:04 PM Wow, what an amazing creature! How big was it? -- moto |
X-ray Posts:4370 ![]() | December 18, 2006, 07:03:03 PM Well, I am sure if we present the spider in a palatable form, then Blobzie will be interested. Don't they eat deep-fried spiders in China or somewhere? :-P |

Pretty sure its a Huntsman Spider as Wolf Spiders have two very prominent eye along with 4 smaller ones. I hope it was a Huntsman as I got pretty darn close to it. As for Blobzie, she'd have to send me her address for that to happen, not a very wise thing to do on this forum :-P |
X-ray Posts:4370 ![]() | December 17, 2006, 03:42:22 PM I must say I am not a fan of spiders. That one isn't venomous is it? It looks like a wolf spider to me. What sort is it, Adz? You should catch him and mail him to Blobzie, I hear she likes spiders :-P |
