Macro Noobness #2 - along the A1200... | ||

Description: Not your normal high magnification shot this time but just fooling around with the camera in macro mode. The raw penny image from macro noobness 1 is visible on the monitor, which was running at 1600x1200 in that shot ;-) The A1200 top cover is not screwed on due to the fact I used to frequently open it up when experimenting, a fact evident by the seemingly sunken function keys... Is it a good or bad sign that it is capable of taking this image in macro mode?" Neither, IMO. This is just a fallback measure. I know that with my Powershot, Macro mode prioritizes close focus but will eventually seek outwards if it fails to lock on something. Since the focus seems about right in the center of the picture, I suspect that's where the AF point is and you composed the shot before the autofocus. If you can't move the AF point (not sure what kinda gear you're using) you need to lock the focus with the target center-frame and then recompose the shot before releasing the shutter. This is easier to do handheld, unless your camera has a seperate button or switch to hold the focus. |
Linchpin Posts:1483 ![]() | December 19, 2006, 07:38:10 PM I have no idea. and the reason is... im a n00b to photography too ![]() Looks like your camera isnt showing a true DOF... getting the monitor in focus, as if its focusing on the center of the frame rather than the bottom edge.. can you move the focal point in the frame window? Maybe this will help... i know I can on my camera. |

No, its a macro no no. Technically, you should have only focused on the closest point of the keyboard, then let the depth of field (refererd to as DOF) fade from there until the monitor was nothing but a blur. The problem with P&S cameras is 1, the tiny sensor and 2, the small lens. No matter how manual a P&S camera is, the DOF is quite diffuicult to control because of this. Your first shot was what a true macro should look like. |
X-ray Posts:4370 ![]() | December 11, 2006, 02:07:17 PM I dunno. One thing is certain, I prefer how my old Sony used to focus, it was much easier. But the Canon does take some nice Macros with a bit of fiddling. It would be interesting to see how your camera fares with angled macros, similar to Adz's ROM shots. |
Karlos Posts:16879 | December 11, 2006, 01:54:29 PM So... is that a good thing or not? :-) |
X-ray Posts:4370 ![]() | December 11, 2006, 12:46:25 PM On my camera, you wouldn't be able to get that monitor in focus in macro mode. And it is even more fussy in super macro mode. |
