smiley1635 Posts:152 ![]() | August 25, 2006, 12:57:38 AM @cv643d I think that the infintiv is a great tower for the following reasons: - Being plastic does not remove its old retro look compared to a metal PC looking case. - It doesnt look like a PC - Produced for the Amiga back in its hay-day - The Powered by Amiga with rubber boing ball is a nice touch. - You can strip it down to bare bones in about 5 seconds - It doesnt wobble as many people say it does. - Has a few tower specific expansions - The floppy drive fronts look cool ![]() - Has an inbuilt reset button if you want to add those pins to test pad 1 ![]() - Comes with keyboard case (complete with amiga rubber boing ball logo) to make an external keyboard from your old A1200 one - Has an inbuilt keyboard adapter (although not a fantastic one) - Did I mention it look Retr0? - The whole A1200 fits in the case perfectly, so there are no gaping holes at the back ![]() Bad Points: - Back panels are too short for use with standard metal backplates, with my busboard installed I have had to bend back the backplate bottom for it to fit correctly - If using a busboard with an accelerator you are forced to buy a 5.25" snapin bay kit for the lid to fit correctly. (Accel card pokes out by about 2cm) - Those damn 3.5" and 5.25" snapin bays hard to come across!! @Hodgekinson I think it was an attempt to get a buyer to buy a micronik busboard rather than a competitors busboard. However you can just buy converters. I have a micronik PSU > AT PSU cable. I will post a pic of my infintiv ones its got all its guts back in it, in about a week. (Luckily I found the 5.25" one for sale ) |
cv643d Posts:1197 | August 24, 2006, 10:35:59 PM Do these towers hold up fine? They got lots of bad press for the flimsy plastic. I think they certainly is the best looking Amiga tower. |
Hodgkinson Posts:1080 | August 24, 2006, 10:33:27 AM Since the boards and Micronik PSU's have special connectors, I wonder if Micronik decided to produce boards with special connectors so that they could buy in PSU's, change the connectors, and then sell them on so that anyone who needed a PSU had to buy them via Micronik??? When I looked inside my PSU, I noticed some of the power leads had been chopped off at the board, indicating tampering, possibly by Micronik. What do you think? Hodgkinson. |
smiley1635 Posts:152 ![]() | August 23, 2006, 06:15:00 PM Yes I have a working Highway Zorro II card. I have the standard Micronik power connector but the busboard is a Micronik so it fits. |
Hodgkinson Posts:1080 | August 23, 2006, 02:38:50 PM smiley1635: Spare bays: Nope sorry. The only ones I have i'll be needing soon. Mind you, I could do with a 5.25" bay blanking plate. Heres the lowdown: -A1200 mobo rev 10.4 (Or is that 1D.4?) -The usual PS/2 keyboard adaptor board and power jumper thingy + A1200 in keyboard case unit -Kickstart 40.68 ROM's (Escom branded) -Blizzard 1230 IV with 64mB EDO + MC68030RC50C + MC68882RC50A -6860 Adaptor Rev 6.1 + 6860 Board Rev 6.8 -4GB HDD -32x IDE CD reader (Maybe later the SCSI writer too) -Cybervision 64 3D + video switcher + scan doubler on top of some mobo chips -PCMCIA Right angled adaptor -IDEFIX buffer/splitter board -3COM 3C589D network card, but not working at the moment -Rather low powered 200W PSU with extra molex leads soldered onto the PCB inside it. -Extra bay mounted fan...blah blah blah. -If I get the 3COM card to work, i'll be adding the network backplane extender thingy (See my other pictures) In rebuilding the tower, I took the PSU to peices in order to oil/change the fan in order to reduce the noise. At the same time, I added some extra leads to the PSU by soldering them directly to the PCB (I take NO responsibility for anyone being fried who tries this in order to save buying splitter leads). As regards the problem of dirt in the PC, the PSU had seemed to trap most of the dust before it entered the tower (!) It needed a good cleanout. You have a working USB system on your Amiga??? Also, does your PSU have a non-standard power connector in order to plug into the bus board? Hodgkinson. |
Hodgkinson Posts:1080 | August 23, 2006, 02:14:06 PM AMIGAZ: Yeah, thats just me tinkering with the SCSI Writer drive. The problem is that the SCSI cable just isn't long enough between the two drive connectors to allow both the HDD+CD to be properly fitted in the tower at the same time (Note how the Writer is longer than more modern drives and will only go in the very top bay, notice the CD caddy for the drive on top of the tower?). Apart from that, see the photo about crimped connectors! |
smiley1635 Posts:152 ![]() | August 23, 2006, 12:20:53 AM Dont suppose you have any micronik 3.5 snap-in bays to spare? :-P Managed to get my hands on the extra 5.25" snap-in bay though. How have you kept it so clean!? Mine is a tad dirty and the boing ball has faded ![]() Here is the spec of my Infintiv: :rtfm: - A1200 mobo - Apollo 1240 - Micronik 6860 rev 5.43 Zorro II bus-board - GVP spectrum 2mb GFX card - Highway USB - IDEFIX buffer - PCMCIA right angle adapter with wireless card and a cdrom, 2 hardrives and a internal 5.25 bay front usb hub and card reader. Thinking about buying a kicklfash OS4 for it ;-) Whats in yours? |
