Amiga to PS2 Keyboard Adapter
Amiga to PS2 Keyboard Adapter
Previous Image | Next Image
Description: Here's a piccy of my PS2 keyboard adapter that I've finally got working on my ratty old A600.

It's based on Stephen Marsden's wonderful 'IBMkey26' design and built on - yes you've guessed it - copper strip board.  Works a treat with my old Win95 Ergonomic.  Total cost around £6.

The A600 is missing quite a few keys though. No numeric pad, for starters.

Oh yeh - so it has!

There are a few points as to why I chose to hook up a PC keyboard to my A600.

1. To verify the hack worked and didn't cause any ill effects to the A600 before I use one on my A1200.
2. To enable me to use a wireless keyboard.
3. To enable me to play any A500+ flight sim requiring the numeric keypad (on the A600).  Had to swap the kickstart ROM for a 2.04 jobby first though.

Apart from the above, the adapter neatly bypasses the need to buy an expensive replacement Amiga keyboard should the original fail or develope bad keys.  PC keyboards are cheap, reliable, robust and can be had in many varied designs/styles/colours.  Amiga keyboards on the otherhand are marginal (and cream/beige) when new and just plain poor (and yellow) after 15-20 years use/abuse.

I don't see the point. The A600 has already got a keyboard.

@CD32Freak

That's the one!

Only change I made was to substitute the 16C84 for a 16F84.  The adapter's now fitted inside my A600 with the PS2 connector fixed to the back edge of the case top.

I'm planning on building another one for my A1200.  Hopefully, this will be on a pcb and will also incorporate a PS2 mouse adapter.  The PS2 sockets will be mounted on a backplate ready for the pc-towerisation(?) of my A1200.

I guess he means it is based on the PIC 16C84 programmer & PC keyboard hack by Stephen Marsden? :-)
