unless they are through-mounting ones - particularly 'lytics. Through-mounting resistors have colour coded bands.

Some old caps have color bands too.

They are the little brown blocks.
The circuit board has them marked with a C and then a number.
Note the resistor on the bottom left which is black with a number on it, (ceramic Surface mounted) Capacitors dont normally have numbers on them.
