Description: Here is the inside of CU_AMiGA's Amiga 1200 trapdoor slot. As you can see the Blizzard 1260 slots snugly inside the Amiga 1200 trapdoor. The 64MB simm that is installed here is a nice slim single sided simm, and the trapdoor can shut nicely over this lot. Although the trapdoor does bulge a little, but i always use a flat surface when placing my Amiga 1200 somewhere, so the airflow is okay. The trapdoor itself has been modded by ajk. The job done was very professional, i believe a Dremmel drill was used to do the job, that i could never have done. There are exactly 8 holes in the trapdoor, and is enough to allow airflow from the Blizzard 1260, the simm and maybe even the Hard Drive (more on that in another photo). Although the Blizzard 1260 combination gets really hot (if you touch the accelerator itself, the simm, or the trapdoor), it seems to be happy enough. I believe the Blizzard 1260 is more tolerable to heat than the Blizzard 1230 and 1240 series of accelerators, and maybe even produce less heat than them as well. I have had this setup running now for around 2 months, so it must be okay. Even my Blizzard 1230IV with a slim SIMM makes the trapdoor bulge slightly. As for heat, I've never had a problem with my 030. Granted I've never had it turned on for days at a time, but often in sessions of several hours. |
weirdami Posts:3776 | August 12, 2006, 09:00:26 AM You can reduce the bulging by melting down those pokey stick deals on the in side of the trap door. I think they're supposed to push your card in to keep it in place. They just get in the way. I don't use the trapdoor on anyway, though. Just elevate the A1200 and off I go. |
Brian Posts:1604 | October 08, 2005, 07:49:13 AM The 060 is LESS heattollerant than the 030 and 040. It runs on 3.3V not 5V so yes it should produce conciderably less heat (from personal experience a 030/40 with heatsink still gets up and over 55C and a 040/25 with heatsink can give blisters :-o ) For my 1260 setup I use a modded heatsink that sits all over the CPU and allows the singelsided simm to install over it, feats to rice the machine about 1/3" and as trappdoor I use a metalmesh from a speakercover modded to fit exactly in the CPUslot space and be removeable. Take it as you like... me I would add extra cooling to your system as a hot 060 is an unhappy puppy. |

Karlos Posts:16878 | June 25, 2005, 01:13:54 PM It just occured to me. There are four A1200s within 2 metres of me at the moment and yet I don't have a single trapdoor over anywhere  I wonder where the hell they all went? |
