I like buffers alot... and i'm talking BIG buffers here..
Sexy baby yeah!

And from my viewpoint, performance increased together with the increase in buffersize to a considerable amout.

ex. I've used around 60-100 MB on that...

Call me fanatic :)

Also thanks to Karlos for advertising this :)

Like I said, I do some seriously memory intensive operations from time to time, but for every day usage it just means I simply don't run out of memory ;-)

More than 3Gb eh? Virtual? Emulator? Pegasos?

What do you do with yours ? :-D

So, you actually use that much?

My Amiga has more than 3G!!!! And I use hardly any of it? ;)

@carls

Tell it to large PC game conversions, mac emulations etc.

Heretic 2, GLQuake etc. run much better than they did with 64Mb only - that was the bare minumum for Heretic 2 :-)

Also, I found it helps when compiling large projects when heavy optimisation is used.

Finally, it's the limit of my BPPC, so might as well max it out, rather than going for 128, then at some point in the future wondering if its not enough.

Not that I don't see anything wrong with it, but is there actually any use for 256MB in an AmigaOS 3.x system? Heck, even Win2k runs decent enough on it!

@tpg

:lol: After trying some 37 suppliers looking for 128Mb 60ns 5v SIMMs and failing totally Haymiggan (after lempkee put me in touch) was able to procure a pair in days and for a very reasonable price.

So by way of a 'thanks' I decided to do a bit of advertising on his behalf. I thought the 9-digit free memory figures might tempt other users too...

@fragment

:lol: You are absolutely right sir. That's what happens when you are confronted with large numbers at stupid-o'clock :-D

@that_punk_guy

Do you remember "loadsamoney" then? Harry Enfields 80's yob yuppie character?

"Look at my wad!" was one of his favourite sayings...

Tool? er, my s:shell-startup file..

Which looks like

echo "*e[>1m*e[32;41m*e[0;0H*e[J"
prompt "*n*e[>1m*e[33;41m*e[1m%N/%R.*e[30;41m%S>*e[0m*e[32;41m "
alias CLS "echo *"*E[0;0H*E[J*""
echo "AmigaOS $OS. Workbench (Disk) $Workbench, Kickstart (ROM) $Kickstart*n"
date
echo "*nMemory*n"
avail

Incidentally, $OS is set by me as 3.5 (which is what I use).
