Title: My uncles old A1200 - Best way to use his LCD PC Monitor?
Post by: sheepz on April 08, 2024, 09:16:53 AM
Hi

My uncle that got me into amigas is finally getting his A1200 with Blizzard 060 out the loft and would like to use it with his modern PC monitor.

I have seen a few external fliker fixers, any recommendations for anything that will upscale and be suitable for a modern monitor?

Regards

Barry

First off. Which LCD monitor? Will output 15khz signals?

If yes to the 15khz, then something like a RGB to VGA adapter would work. Amigakit sell these In abundance.

If it’s a 32khz signal you need then Yes a scandoubler or better a scandoubler with Flickerfixer is required.

There are options.

Internally then at the moment the Indivision AGA MK3 with VGA or HDMI output. Individual Computers sell these.

There are other types and possibly external Scandoublers and Flickerfixers.

Hi

Its a modern one, so I don't think it will be 15khz,, I was hoping some had experience with and external unit.

The only external ones I have used are the following:

1). Cheap Chineseum RGB to SCART then output via HDM. You need the RGB to SCART Lead as well as a HDMI lead.

2). The DCE External Scandoubler/Flickerfixer. These get stupid hot and fail half the time due to age.

3). The Apollo-X PAL RGB to VGA which is okay. But not great and expensive for what it is.

I tend to use Option 1 for build and testing. Can be picked up £50 or less off EBay.

I you happen to have LCD-TV with SCART connector, that would be simplest solution. Usually LCD-TVs also works as a flicker fixer. You would only need a correct cable.

I currently use this Scart to HDMI. Works very well.

Wouldn’t he need one of these as well to either directly connect to a TV with SCaRT from the Amiga RGB port or to that box you mention 😉
