[12:46]       Megatokia: as for the software side, Motorola have a program which is ran first from flash before the kickstart is loaded, it makes a virtual 68K using both none emulated and emulated instructions
[12:46]       this will make it very compatiable with all 68K software
[12:47]       the actual software has different versions for each 68K you want to emulate so if you want to run an old 68000 program you can set it to be just like a 68000
[12:47]       how about compiling "native" coldfire apps without the need of this emulator?

[12:48]       oli_hd: sounds very interesting. how much faster will the coldfirecard be comapared to a CSMK2/060@50MHz? I think a lot more improvement can be achieved with faster ram speed too.

[12:49]       All coldfire code, even 68K code that doesnt use the missing instructions will run at the full 220Mhz speed
[12:50]       oli_hd: it means that FroggerNG for 68k will run movies just fine

[12:50]       As for speed, well it depends on the amount of 68K programs ran, how many none coldfire instuctions in each program and such like but info given by Motorola shows the speed hit is small, probably making it feel more like 150Mhz than 220, still a massive step up from the 50Mhz 68060

[12:54]       MrZammler: The cost, well I would say 200 ukp, about 280 euro's, but thats the high side just to be safe, if I do a basic card then it would be 170 pounds

[12:57]       Ami603: Hardware wise the Coldfire card really is compatiable, I dont see any problems with that at all

[12:59]       alef: A full Coldfire motherboard isnt planned although if the Coldfire project sold very well then it would be the next step however I would still probably use the A4000 Coldfire CPU upgrade as the main CPU module and just add an SD-Ram interface to the motherboard and generaey update the design.

[13:00]       [shIva]: Ok, lan, that is what a lot of people would like to see and the chip is available.. and small, but it costs a bit so it may be an upgrade and not as standard, or a special version with the chip soldered on to the board. (Its a SMD chip)

[13:01]       AmiDelf: AmigaNYX, no, If I designed a card then it would use a lot of custom chips but would not be a NYX design, its old tech now, although it would look like an Amiga, it would have Zorro slots, video slots and things like that
