Geez. We're the cats.
« on: January 03, 2005, 01:08:24 AM »
I have been sitting here thinking about things recently and it suddenly dawned on me that the whole Amiga situation is a living parody of the "Waiting for God" episode from Season 1 of Red Dwarf.

For those of you who haven't seen Red Dwarf, rent it, buy it, or get it from a friend.

This episode in particular is where it's discovered that during the three million years Lister was in stasis, his cat evolved into an entire race of "cat-like humanoids" on board the ship.  A laundry list and Lister's diary that he left three million years ago was discovered by the "cats" who have since been involved in a deadly war with each other for generations over whether their hats should be red, or green (based solely in a comment in Lister's diary).

The sillyness of this particular episode (of the EXCELLENT TV series) is an eerie parallel to the people now trying to tear apart the community over whether they believe "the next generation Amiga should be red" or "the next generation  Amiga should be blue".

Rather than working together to further your goals, you're happily killing yourselves over something that doesn't really matter.  Watch the episode.  You'll understand.

Oh, and by the way, Happy New Year.

That's one of the best episodes of Red Dwarf :-D

It's so true to this situation too, well spotted :-D

As long as we don't have to put up with Quagaars we'll survive :-P

Wow, I have not see that in some time.

Holly went on to explain what happened to the rest of the Cat race.  Apparently there were thousands of years of war between factions who believed that the Hat should be red and those that believed that the hat should be Blue. This is all very fare fetched, everyone knows that the hat should be white!!   Most of the cats were killed until finally they made a truce and built two arcs and went off in search of Fushal.   They used a sacred script to glean directions; unfortunately, this turned out to be Lister's laundry list! The Blue Hat brigade thought it was a star chart leading to the Promised Land. One of the Arcs flew into an asteroid and the other went off to find Fushal believing that they were righteous.

By the looks of it Vincent isn't afraid to show everyone he is a cat  :-)

I hope this year someone starts selling AmigaOS4 and an industry
recognisable product in both software and hardware.

Nobody drools over OEM cases.

And can someone making the add-on cards please realise that towered
Amigas are still a minority and that a whole new market could be
exploited by catering for the mass-produced console Amigas like the
A1200 desktop.

Looks like the AmigaOS4 Vs MorphOS thing could be overshadowed in 2005
by Shark Vs Coldfire Vs AmigaOne and that other processor card on the
news section.

Better if we got a decent graphics card rather than a processor.

;-)

Sorry, Wayne, the next generation is RED.

A fast 68K extension for Os3.x has been announced,
the Amiga has a new model, the µA1, and there is
a ppc extension for A1200's to run OS4 in style
which may be A4K/A3K bound as well.

Preservation of what is left.

Advancement of the remaining hardware.

Extension of the OS on new hardware.

Anyone who chooses to write software for only
one option, is going to slowly fade
away like the Acorn or Atari.

Sigh.  Some people just don't "get it".  Apparently you haven't seen the episode in question to seek it's relevance.

Welcome to Amiga.org, by the way.

Actually, I think the Red and Blue camps exist in the same symbiotic relationship that Rimmer and Lister have in Red Dwarf. Rimmer was  a hologram created to keep Lister sane by annoying him. So which camp do you think is Rimmer? No, never mind :-D

Its like Amigans need a mortal enemy to rail against in order to progress. Its a part of their psycholgy...its an us against them mentality. Sigh... I guess it comes from years of bragging about how your hardware is better than their hardware when the Amiga came out.

Ok. Going back to my happy place now.
