Amiga.org news are less and less Amiga related
« on: October 15, 2003, 09:32:42 PM »
Hi,
Over the last months Amiga.org moderators have accepted several news that are not Amiga related.
If you look at the current news you can see (The New Mozilla,  X86-64 vs G5, Israel bans Microsoft Software, Firm sues Microsoft over music download service, ...)
Also the poll is mainly about PC games.
Would it be possible that the default Amiga.org does not display such things that I can find on other non Amiga sites ? Or maybe we should be able to rate news submission. It looks that some people are desesperate to post news bashing Microsoft or big IT stories. If it is to copy what is posted on main IT news website I don't see the point.  :-?

As I have said on about 1000 times, the news posted here depends 99% on the visitors.  If you want Amiga news posted here, submit Amiga news.  Otherwise, the administrators take what is submitted.

YOU make the news here.  Not the administrators.

Funny you should mention that.

I was JUST thinking how there isn't mush 'news' being posted (Not specifically on amiga.org, generally). Considering we are so close to the most exciting climax in recent years. I'm sure there's SOMETHING someone can tell us... ...

But saying that, when they do (By saying 'they' I mean, Amiga Inc, Eyetech & Hyperion) almost immediately the trolls come out to play. Noticed how quiet they've been too?

Oh well, it's all good. Still waiting patiently for news & a certain OS.

If I submit news about fishing will it go live ?  :-o

Go figure.

We're waiting for a new OS and Hyperion have already said they'll tell more "when it's ready".  You can blame the propaganda of Amiga Inc circa 2000 for that.

The Amiga community isn't blind to the goings on of the outside world so it makes sense to stay informed.  Personally I think the moderators here and on Amiga World do a good job.

No - AFAIK submitted news is sent for approval first (thats why it doesn't appear immediately)

Now that would be plain silly.

The fact is that the moderators do not have a great deal of Amiga news to sort and publish if news submissions are low.

is it easier to criticise than to hunt down and submit quality news for submission yourself?

As for Microsoft bashing, its an age old tradition for all IT related sites to poke fun at them. ;-)

Didn't mean to attack the moderators, just that I didn't expected a.org to go that much off topic.
I could also blame the readers (including myself) to not submit enough news.

Not unless you're using an Amiga or Pegasos as a fish-finder.

Mozilla for example, represents about 22% of our visitors to the site, so Mozilla is of interest to a great number people.  Everyone loves seeing Microsoft get beat up, so that is posted.

It comes down to one thing.  If you want Amiga news here, submit it.  Otherwise, there is nothing to report.

its abit weird , amiga-news.de  has a lot of news and even ann.lu .., i stopped visiting them but i have to visit them every now and then now since i dont get news here.

i would submit more news if the damn poster was ibrowse friendly , i have to type urls manually and link them up etc...

and that is very stressing....VERY!
(atleast for me who aint no webjunkie)

cheers
Whats up with all the hate!

I suggest that the title of this thread be changed to:

"Not enough Amiga related news being submitted by members."

Then it would be more suited to the announcements category.

Oh heck no. I've posted a few news items that never made it. In hind sight they probably shouldn't have. The moderators here do an excelent job. As soon as there is more Amiga specific news the volume will pick up.
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!
