Rocket Launcher and GVP 1230+
« on: August 01, 2007, 05:59:13 AM »
Hi,

I have the 030/50 Rocket Launcher that I used on a GVP 030 Series II Combo Board for the A2000.

Is it possible to use this on the 030/40 GVP 1230 Turbo+ II?

Providing the A1200 is towerized.

Reason I ask is I don't have an FPU in the 1230 but I do in the Rocket Launcher. The chips are surface mounted on the rocket and I wouldn't feel comfortable de-soldering them.

Only one way to find out! Rocket Launcher does appear to be designed for this kind of operation, tho it would really depend on how the clock pulse is generated on the Rocket Launcher. If it's doubling the clock pulses from the socket, then you might be SERIOUSLY OVERCLOCKING the CPU. Use caution.

Mac Mini 1.5GHz, that might run MorphOS someday, when the fools who own it come to the realization that 30 minutes just isn\'t enough time to play with it enough to decide whether or not you like it enough to cough up $200.

 - Someone please design SOME kind of DIY accelerator for the A4000. :D -

I'd advise against trying it. FPUs are cheap and plentiful, just buy one.

The Rocketlauncher is a doublercard. Its designed for the a2630, it works with 25 MHZ. If you use a rocketlauncher on it. It works with 50 MHZ.
Your GVP 1230 is clocked at 40MHZ, if you use the rocketlauncher on it, i think you will kill the rocketlauncher with 80MHZ.

If you ever sell your Rocketlauncher, i will buy it.
 :-)

If you want a FPU, i have one.

What's a Rocketlauncher? A CPU upgrade thingy to allow more modern CPUs in sockets they weren't meant for?

Ok, thanks guys, I'm not gonna try it.

I sent you a PM Evillord68 on the FPU.

I tried doing a google search for anyone selling them and only got Ebay hits for $70-$80. AmigaKit, SoftHut and Vesalia don't have them.

It's the XC68882RC40A PGA.

Love to have one of those. I have a nice A2630 with an 112MB DKB board to go with it!

I disagree with you guys!

If Wlemonds changes the GVP original crystal for a 25MHz one, he do the trick!
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

But I think that could be an horrible hack.

The Rocket Launcher turns the processor in 90 degrees, then I think the board will short-circuit the acellerator, or even cover the RAM sockets. So is phisycally impossible to fit it.
