Morphos Resolutions

I am a new morphos user using 3.1 on a minimac.I am loving the os its so good watching youtube on a fast amiga compatible OS!

I am struggling with the whole setting the resolution for the system.

I seem to only get 800 x 600 working when using the prefs menu.I have got 1024 x 768 working on this system with this monitor by holding the the control key when I launch the os. I just dont seem to be able to set it in the screens or monitors section on prefs.

 Everytime I set it and restart the screen produces a 1024 x768 desktop but I can only see 800 x 600 of it. I am sure I am missing something. I remember you can set the screen size like on the old amigas defining the corners and sides. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1024x768 suggest a really ancient monitor which MorphOS cant regognize.

Go to preferences->monitor (not screen).
On the top you will see something like "Monitor-38KHz"
Right to it is a gadget "edit", hit that and press "ok" in the requester that pops up.

Here you will to choose a fitting monitor, if yours is not listed try to figure out it's data and choose the according standard one.

Now 1024x768 sounds like either a 17" CRT or 15" LCD, you might wanna try "Monitor-64KHz".
You'll need to save and reboot to activate the new settings.
Afterwards you should be able to select a proper 1024x768 screenmode.

Sorry but I have a few more questions

The only reason I was using 1024 x 768 was because its the highest one I have got working with morphos. I would love to go higher resolution if I can with this screen. Whats the general res that morphos users use?

I am using a hdtv/vga mointor tv thing
Its a goodmans LD1945WDW could not find it on the list and cannot find any reference to the khz online, do you think I will have to just try a few monitors on the list to see if they work with it?

Also when I select the monitor will the modes list update with new avaible modes or do I have to add new ones manually?

Whats the general res that morphos users use?

They should use the native resolution of the monitor I myself use 1920x1080 (fullhd) and 1600x1200 resolutions mostly. No problems setting them with real monitors.. although I've had some problems getting optimal resolution for TVs.. they seem to be more picky.

That display seems to have 1440x900 as native resolution, so you should try to get that displayed.

Most likely you should find that resolution on pre-defined mode list when you're creating new mode in Monitors prefs (if not, pick the closest one for example and edit it suitable with resolution and pixel clock settings). Select it on Edit Mode window, select 24bit and hit Test button. If it displays fine click OK and Save. Then you should be able to select that mode for Ambient screen in Screens prefs.

A quick visit to google shows that it has a pixel resolution of 1440 x 900, so try using that. In any case, 1024x768 is a 4:3 aspect ratio resolution which will look bad on a 16:9 aspect display.

I have a 24" 1920 x 1080 display, so that's the resolution I am using. Use whatever native resolution your monitor has!

Don't hecitate to ask questions, that's a perfect use of forums. It could also help others with same problem! If you are a new user I guess there will be tons of things you will want to ask as you explore the system!
